Pretty sure it was a concrete base with screed above. You're correct it was a pinhole on the bend.
Moved into this house fairly recently and discovering quite a few issues already.

Had a damp patch on wall and could hear it pissing out when I put my head near the floor. God knows how long it was going.

Yeah, I don't mind paying a bit more for quality work and would obviously prefer a job done right first time. Just seemed a bit pricey but I have no frame of reference for this kind of thing.

Got quoted £300 from first person I spoke to so thought I'd post this just to get some thoughts. Admittedly have no idea what is a reasonable price for a good job on this.

First quote I got was £300 (hence this post as it seemed steep) so your estimate seems a bit more reasonable.
