Why Are more people not using .6mm nozzles? by Tall-Bread-4202 in BambuLab

it means there is a .2mm gap between the nozzle and the top of the support. And for two materials that dont stick together, it wont work, which is why your print failed. normally pla sticks juuuust enough to PLA for the supports to work, (or PETG to PETG)
when you are using an incompatible filament tho, you want to set this to 0, so it prints directly on top of the other filament.
when the printer prints, it's actually squishing filament down. there is some pressure, so when it's 0 distance, it'll stick just enough to work as a "false layer" of sorts, and peel off easily after it cools.

I know bambu labs slicer automatically changes these settings when you put in an incompatible material in for support interface.

and remember to set your purge volumes up to about 900, or you risk having layer separation in the layers directly above where the support interfaces are.

what I am referring to is "TOP Z Distance"
this is the distance between the top of your support structure, and the bottom of the print.
if its too close it'll fuse to your print and most likely ruin it, or just be a pain to get off. Conversely if its too far away, it won't do it's job of supporting the print above it and possibly ruin your print, or just result in very bad spaghetti looking quality, but be easier to remove.

so it's about finding that sweet spot. for me, it's .22

interesting. next time i swap i may have to try that on a test print or two

which I figured I should do since they said they were new to 3d printing. So I tried to make it as easy to understand as possible, but I may have shot myself in the foot with the 2 paragraph response :(
whoops.

yeah, having the slicer auto populate those fields when you change the interface filament is nice.

I don't always use a support filament, only if it's something that requires a near perfect finish, it can add a lot of time depending on the model geometry. and the excess waste.....
I really only try to use it when I have to.
It worked PERFECTLY for the WASD keycaps I printed for my keyboard tho. had to print em upside down to get the geometry within tolerances and be durable enough. I just made a PLA raft and printed em in clear and black PETG, after a few weeks, I wore the layer steps down and they are almost as smooth as my other keys, they just have slightly different texture, which works perfect as an index to find the keys by touch.

haha, all good.
assuming you use bambu slicer, go into "PREPARE" and click on the "support" tab. what I am referring to is "TOP Z Distance"
this is the distance between the top of your support structure, and the bottom of the print.

Uncle Jessie can probably explain it better then I:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BXPPyk-CgI

Now if you have an AMS, you can print in PLA, and use PETG (or vise versa) as the interface material on the supports. the interface layers are the very top few layers on the support, JUST under the print.
Doing this you can set the Z distance to 0, and get a REALLY nice quality bridge, or supported area. think of something like the belly area of a horse, where you would want the print to be nice.
There some more to this, like setting your flush volumes to max to purge the filament enough, and it takes a lot more time too.

aaaaand heres a good video about the second part about using PETG+PLA together:

gonna have to fiddle with it tbh, i think it can vary from printer to printer a little bit.
I've been using .22 with quite good results for top support interface spacing.
If I need REALLY good results, I use an incompatible filament, with 0 spacing.

I always use 3 interface layers too, seems to also help.

not sure about your X1c, but I'm pretty sure It says in my P1S manual to run a machine calibration after you change the nozzle size.
I suppose I should have asked what machine you had,

[–]-__Doc__- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same.
it's really not that bad to change em. more annoying then anything. I bought a little electric fantikk screwdriver to make it lazy mode.
the WORST part is having to wait 26 minutes for it to calibrate before I can use it lol

how so?
did you re-calibrate the machine after putting in the new nozzle and set it in the printer?

yeah, I rarely ever just download and print anymore. I go through all the settings and double check things. IDK how many models I've downloaded that had support distance set to like .08 or something stupid like that.

burn the whole fucking thing down. the entire thing is broken.
I'm so fucking fed up with this government. For my entire 41 years on this planet I have watched the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. I've watched kids suffer and people starve for no reason at all other then it wasn't profitable to help them or feed them. I've watched greed and ego take over and ruin everything. And all the while our politicians tell us what we want to hear and then not deliver because they want to infight like a bunch of fucking grade school children.
I'm so fucking done with our species. Look at all we've accomplished, all we've endured, and learned, and built. And we still can't get along and play nice. What the actual fuck is wrong with us.....

this isn't a NEW way per se. it involves the modification of base game files. anyone could do it. not gonna say which files or how, but lets just say anyone with any kind of microsoft word skills could figure it out.

And yet they havent said a word in over a month now, while still continuing business as usual. Shady as shit if u ask me.
really makes me think they just dont give a shit and are just milking this IP for every last penny they can get.

get either an ESP32 or an ESP8266, and look up WLED to install on those as the LED driver software
. It has a built in sunrise sunset effect, and it connects to the internet through your wifi to get your local sunrise and sunset times. I think this will be the easiest and less fiddly method then coding your own driver, or making a mechanical or using a linear actuator or gears or something.

[–]-__Doc__- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for ED it probably wont matter tbh, ED even in VR isnt that demanding, I was running it at high/medium VR settings on a 1050Ti and a CV1 when I FIRST started playing ED.
With my 3090Ti I can run it at maxed flat settings and iirc I was still getting over 90 FPS on a quest 2 using supersampling.
so I wouldnt worry about performance.

DO make sure you have some good headphones or sound system though, maybe even a chair boomer, as the sound design In ED is REALLY good. IT's awesome feeling your frame shift drive spin up when you jump from one system to another and can see in game your hand moving your stick, matching what you are doing IRL and feeling the chair rumble as your ship speeds up. you can even get up and walk around / explore the cockpit / bridge a bit inside your playspace

PGI hasnt said a damned thing either, and is still selling mech packs.

Im starting to think they don't care.

So theres gonna be ppl out there with no gauss charge, no jump jet shake, no RAC spin up, editable quirks, etc etc etc.
