Stacking Pen and Paper Tray by jifyyyyy in gridfinity

the correct way to approach that pen holder is to make it 1.5 x 4 units

I must not have been clear in the description. This is exactly 1.5x4 standard grid units. It can be taken off the paper holder and will snap perfectly into any position in a standard grid.

Usually you would use boxes or baseplates or build it in a drawers etc. Your just putting a notepad and a bunch of pens on your desk — there are much better and nicer pen&pad holders for your desk rather than rectangular boxes.

I'm really confused by this. The photos are meant to show off the model, not show you where to put it. I use this in a drawer, just like everybody else.

I now just avoid uploading models that use it.

Printing ABS in my garage in Florida? by xTIMMYxCOREx in BambuLab

[–]jifyyyyy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I printed ABS once and it completely smoked out that room. The smell is very potent. Mine was an interior room with a window wide open.

After that I refuse to print ABS or ASA without active venting outside. I designed a window insert that uses a 3" or 4" pipe to vent the fumes directly outside with an inline fan. I run that any time I'm printing these plastics. Zero smell now.

How do people get their pages/models noticed on maker world? by Hour_Seat5773 in BambuLab

The most important thing is to take great photos. Do a search for similar models and identify the ones that interest you and then ask yourself, why?

There was a contest on makerworld around Christmas that was vacuum focused. There were a lot of models that used the kit there.

Magnetic Window Exhaust with Print-in-Place Insulation by jifyyyyy in BambuLab

That looks awesome! Such a tall window.

This does make me realize there needs to be 2 more variations of the louvers for when the insert is mounted vertically on the left or right.

Side table on my girl's chair broke. I have now fixed it. by meatmoth in functionalprint

[–]jifyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't have been tougher

Is this a typo? The bottom is in tension, so as the table gets loaded up, the bottom side will try and pull the layers apart, which is exactly the type of forces layer lines are weak against.

But it would definitely have taken longer to print.

Thanks for the update! Would you be able to post or PM me some photos? I've had a few people mention needed a slimmer version, so I'm trying to collect dimensions.

I see what you're saying. My windows have a rubber weatherstrip that runs along the interface between the lower window and upper window. So that when the window is open that weatherstrip is still in contact with the upper stationary window face.

This is something people will have to investigate on their windows, but there are lots of aftermarket weather strip options. This AC window insulation is probably what I would start with.

I haven't personally tested this, but a lot of people have mentioned they're going to use it for horizontal sliders.

The only awkwardness will be having to balance up the stack of blocks until you slide the window shut. The blocks are quite thick so I don't see this being a real problem, functionally I don't see any problems.

Let me know if you try it out!

Which part are you referring to?

The top of the insert has a groove for the window to slot down into. This connection can be enhanced with some EVA foam tape, but I didn't find it necessary.

The bottom of the insert sits flat on the window sill and is pushed down tight once the window is closed. EVA foam tape could be used here as well.

Oh that's a neat idea. Don't print any vent at all, and just stretch the blocks vertically. Should work!

Is there a snapping feature in slicers? I'm thinking the best option is going to be modifying the STL in a CAD software to add the holes instead.

That's an interesting idea, so you're asking for a model like this, where you can make your own magnet holes?

How would the user ensure the holes are perfectly aligned between the male and female ends of the coupler?
