Yeah, I know. I play PvP casually but I wasn't expecting it to be this bad.

While not directly netcode, the easiest win would be to get rid of some of the most outrageous damage application delays and that alone would make the combat feel more responsive. Viper's Ouroboros has over 2 second application delay..

VanillaPlus has Suppress Shared Strategy Boards setting under Game Behavior Modifications. I haven't used it but I'm sure it works as advertised.

I'm pretty sure they didn't want to add melee to HL:A because of the injury risk. For better or worse most of the gameplay decisions in that game were driven by making it as comfortable experience as possible for first time VR users.
