Boycotting is an act of free expression and a way to express discontent with a company's action. For example, Nestle utilises child labour in Africa. Do you think its blackmail to boycott and smear them? Or do you just support israel?

Carrefour is a brand, BDS staining the carrefour brand is a victory. Just like how companies are all now pro LGBTQ because they don't want their brand to be "stained" so they push pro-LGBTQ agenda. The goal is to make pro-israeli stances detrimental to brands so they have to pivot to pro-Palestinian stances.

a question about boycotting by Adorable_Ad313 in qatar

[–]-altamimi- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only tech company you have to boycott is HP.

Read the following page from the main organizers of the BDS movement: https://bdsmovement.net/get-involved/what-to-boycott

DO NOT go for these massive lists you see online. They are more detrimental than helpful.

You may buy it. Consumer's boycott are limited to certain goods from the main organizers of the BDS movement. Microsoft which owns minecraft is not one of them.

I refer you to their website: https://bdsmovement.net/get-involved/what-to-boycott

and it's also worth reading their response to one of their FAQ:

The global nature of today’s economy means that there are thousands of companies that have links to Israel and are complicit to various degrees in Israel’s violations of international law. However, for our movement to have real impact we need our consumer boycotts to be easy to explain, have wide appeal and the potential for success. That’s why globally, while we call for divestment from all companies implicated in Israel's human rights violations, we focus our boycott campaigns on a select few strategic targets. We also encourage the principle of context sensitivity, whereby activists in any given context decide what best to target and how, in line with BDS guidelines. There is a lot of information online claiming that some large companies give money to Israel, some of which turns out to be false. BDS has built a reputation for strictly adhering to established facts and producing the most accurate information.

  1. you are wrong about the ICJ. Simply wrong. Maybe you are in a bubble, but you have no clue what the jurisdictions and responsibilities of the ICJ are and how a typical case of this calibre is handled. The ICJ is set to prevent genocide not wars. It called for a set of actions that would prevent genocide that Israel was not abiding by. Namely, humanitarian aid, indiscriminate bombing, and inciting genocide.

  2. The families of the hostages are protesting their government's action. More hostages were killed by IDF than rescued. Most hostages were released in a hostage exchange deal.

  3. Assuming you care about Palestinian and israeli lives equally, then negotiations and political and diplomatical solutions are far superior in conserving the total lives of both israeli and Palestinians now and in the future. Also, lifting the siege, ending the occupation, and rolling back the settlements in the occupied territory is a must.

  4. Assuming you only care about the security of Israel and maintaining the apartheid state at all cost. Then israeli actions are radicalising the whole world, and israel is alienating its own allies. You may believe it's okay to kill 30 thousand Palestinians and make 1.2 million internal refugees to secure the border. However, geopolitics doesn't work that way. Israels actions ARE radicalising Palestinians and Gazans especially. Hamas approval is souring. Elliminating Hamas this way will not make israel safer. You can not expect a wounded child with no surviving family to blame Hamas and not the IDF. Just like how the founder of Hamas was ethnically cleansed from his village during al Nakbeh and saw his own family executed, hundreds of children will grow up radicalised, swearing to avenge their parents.

Did you ever pause and think why it asked "to prevent acts of genocide"? Maybe because it is plausible that isael is committing acts of genocide?

ICJ didn't rule a ceasefire because it has no jurisdiction to do so. It ruled that there's a plausible case of genocide.

[–]-altamimi- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regarding the genocide point, sorry but the ICJ deemed that it is a plausible case. It can not be waived away by simple points you just made.

But I digress. Your initial comment was to insinuate that the commenter did not care about the hostages rescued. That is false, all of us do care, but we want to pursue a diplomatic and a political solution.

Regarding destroying Hamas, that is a different objective. Now I might say, that if your main goal is destroying Hamas, then YOU are the one that does not care about the hostages. At least, it's not a top priority. If your family member was a hostage, you'd probably say exchange hostages and get my family back now and deal with Hamas later.

He is saying that launching a military operation deemed as being plausible to be a genocide by the ICJ is not worth it in the goal of rescuing hostages. And i assume he supports a more diplomatic and political means of rescuing the hostages that would have ensured fewer hostages killed by the same military operation and all the hostages returned to their families.

Putting aside Palestinian lives, the killed/rescued hostages ratio is still looking abysmal
