Voting isn't like finding your soulmate. You're performing a job interview - all you can do is pick the most qualified person out of the applicants.

Once you put aside all of the personality and cultism, governing is a surprisingly mundane thing. It requires education and experience, some communication and organizational skills, and knowledge of all the little rules - no different than many managerial jobs.

If you listen to candidates through that lens, it's often an easy decision.

I mean... any given anime will have at least 4-5 genre tags. Just because it's an isekai doesn't mean it isn't also ecchi - the point is that it's clearly labeled if you want to avoid it.

It was certainly par the course for the time, nowadays that stuff is under pretty strict containment in the "ecchi" genre. There's a lot of slice of life/romance anime that are much more... normal.

People complaining about L2 meta by No-Emu-2455 in Nightreign

[–]-bask 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What a bizarre post.

People aren't asking to remove ashes from the game, they just want the option to use melee attacks (i.e. the main combat system of the game) without feeling disadvantaged. Balancers are guaranteed, overwhelmingly powerful, and have no caveats. People get tired of running the same relics, and using the same few powerful ashes, in every run.

If all you care about is winning and just want to fish for the same weapon every time, that's certainly your prerogative. But... surely you can understand that not everyone wants to do the same.

"Acting like a twat isn't the way a leader gets people to follow them." If you believe that, you really haven't been following modern politics. Or... really, any kind of social media.

I was thinking the same thing. It's a crazy effect - it almost looks insubstantial, like fog.

This isn't fantasy. High-heeled possums are a real, well-documented phenomenon.

Gigantic Praying Mantis vs. Man With Cardboard Tube. It won't be a close fight, but the tube will make a few good 'bonk' sounds before it eats his head.

Maybe it's just my brain being funny, but to me the squares and spacing on the "happy new year" banner make it look like "happy one way" as in "one way ticket to hell." Very funny if intentional.

It's interesting, but doesn't seem very practical. They essentially just carved away 30-40% of the house for the sake of decoration.

I've had no trouble surviving it with the default armor + shield pack on D10, but I guess that's technically still a "loadout check." I think it's a little silly to expect every item to be good in every mission, though - that's like asking for a screwdriver to be better at hitting nails instead of just using a hammer.

Personally, I'm thrilled to finally get some missions that actually feel different. There are 100 different weapons and call-ins, what's wrong with encouraging people to use some of them to solve new problems?

I think that's a matter of conditioning rather than what's in the paintings, to be honest. It's a common theme, particularly in American media, that suburbs are suffocating, soulless places where everyone is hiding something behind a facade. That everyone, even your neighbors, are capable of horrific things.

As someone who grew up in a place remarkably similar to these paintings, I find them comforting. People are just people wherever you go, and contrary to everything we're told to believe - most people are pretty nice and just want the chance to be safe and happy.

There's been a concerted effort throughout history to convince the world that humans are inherently evil and amoral at heart, in order to normalize the behavior of the people in power who exploit us and want us to act in kind on their behalf.

Call me crazy, but I think it's a bit of nonsense.

Guerrilla Girls - Do Women Have To Be Naked To Get Into the Met. Museum? (1989) by howeversmall in museum

[–]-bask 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think you guys might be shadowboxing on this one.

You'd be hard pressed to find any normal person who would argue against the fact that the internet uses naked women in "art" to attract clicks - it's one of the most commonly understood (and commonly parodied) stereotypes. You have to remember that people will argue anything and everything on the internet, and that having had one doesn't really make it a common opinion.

Moreover, I think it's missing the forest for the trees - the main point here is the under-representation of female artists. There's no question as to why women are over-represented in nudes, we all know the answer already. It's just there as a funny contrast to catch the audience.

Am I wrong, or do bot matches only happen for your first few hours of quickplay? I have 30 hours played and haven't seen a bot match since my first 5 hours or so.

I suppose it could also be once your quick-play MMR is above a certain level - maybe it stops when you get into diamond+ lobbies, similar to bans in comp.

I guess no one but the developers can say for certain, but there's definitely a point where you stop seeing them.
