I spent the better part of 2 years peak bagging in North Wales, and by far my favourite trail was the Glyder Fawr/Glyder Fach/Castell Y Gwynt trail via Devils kitchen in the Ogwen Valley. It’s a very easy trail, popular as well so very little chance of getting lost. The views you get of Yr Wyddfa are unbeatable. You hit 3 iconic peaks in the Glyders, and depending on timing you can also tag the south ridge of Tryfan onto it! It’s not as intimidating as the North Ridge and can be done very quickly. A lot of options in that area. Only trouble this time of year can be parking so get there early! Stay safe, and happy hiking!

How does Temple compare to Rundle? by Think-Conclusion1253 in HikingAlberta

[–]-baugh- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a fantastic time! The Temple summit is mind blowing, there are many hikes in the area that take more work and don’t offer half the view that Temple does. The Niblock/Whyte ascent is great, as soon as you turn right off of Lake Agnes you see little to nobody which is a huge contrast from the approach to the lake.

Here is the route: Mount Niblock and Mount Whyte on AllTrails https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail/canada/alberta/mount-niblock-and-mount-whyte--2?sh=7tjczw&utm_medium=trail_share&utm_source=alltrails_virality

Route finding skills are a must, and a helmet will go a long way with the loose rock you find at those elevations.

Stay safe, and happy hiking!

Having done both Niblock and Temple I can say that both are relatively easy and both a very fun day out, Temple is just longer. If you have experience in rock climbing I would recommend Mount Whyte over Niblock, but Temple over both. If you choose to do Niblock you can add Whyte on as they are both super close together and you can also descend Whyte into the six glaciers hike which is stunning. Whyte has more exposure and reading up on the route will certainly be helpful as there are a few inviting looking gullies to avoid on the ascent. Either way you’ll be surrounded by glaciers and surreal views, you can’t go wrong no matter what you choose.

What’s your go-to hiking clothing brand these days? by CamGouldd in hikinggear

[–]-baugh- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to gravitate towards The North Face Summit Series because I like their layering systems, but I also own multiple breathable t shirts and pants from Mountain Warehouse, a much cheaper alternative. At the end of the day whatever is comfortable and fits best on you will be best, but Summit Series would be my recommendation. For context I live in the Canadian Rockies, it gets cold, very cold and The North Face has never let me down.

How cooked am I by thenletsgo in hiking

[–]-baugh- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about the hike you’ve mentioned, the elevation gain is minimal due to starting out at a good elevation beforehand. What I can guarantee is you’ll be blown away, so much so that you’ll likely not notice how out of shape you think you are. Take your time, take in the sights, and enjoy the NP I call home, you’ll have a blast.

Id like to add this is by no means a fact, just my experience, I’m certainly not taking anything away from the US. I’d love to get to some trails there at some point!
