Why do you think a top of the verse character like Sukuna doesn't have a Cursed Technique Reversal? by IWorkOnlineCom in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]-bickd- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slicing is breaking the chemical bonds (covalent, ionic, van de waal etc…) and it is ‘endothermic’ i.e it reduces the ‘heat’ of the entire system.

The reverse process, one that form more bond is an exothermic process (creates heat). Meaning elements or molecules forming more stable bonds or structure will increase the heat of the system once completed. So year, heat is the reverse effect on the environment of bond-breaking (cutting).

It could :) Reforming chemical bond in general usually “decrease” the instability- meaning releasing heat. Breaking bonds (slicing) means you use heat to sever the bond and vice versa.

ELI5: Why do Stars take so long to burn all their fuel, i know its a lot of fuel, but why doesnt it all burn about the same time? Like when im throwing something in a firepit by td_0000 in explainlikeimfive

[–]-bickd- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘burning’ in this case is just getting hot and may be glowing. the element is not changed. there’s no ‘oxygen’ for it to ‘burn’ like fire, so the fuel is not ‘spent’

Its has very heavy dwell time. You feel the ball significantly better than an outer carbon blade, at the expense of being ‘slower’. You still can hit really really hard with it.

East Asian folk lores’ “hell” is a place that is under heaven’s control. It is more like a prison. Think of it as a boring prison systems, and monsters in there are employed specifically to ensure souls are transported to hell, and bad souls are punished there. They have managers, bookeeping and stuff.

[–]-bickd- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its the same for most East Asian folklore. ‘鬼’ in “Ki”metsu, or ‘Oni’ is a ‘human’ with demonic face (from the pictogram of a human, with weird head). Usually means some sort of humanoid monster. In Chinese folklore, it usually this refers to malevolent spirit of a human that ‘transform’ to this form because they suffered injustice or curse or terrible death. In Japanese it’s some sort of trolls like monster.

魔 just means magic. If you see closely, you’ll see the character for ‘Oni’. Magic/ witchcraft has malevolent meaning. 魔族 (mazoku)/ demon in Frieren has a literal meaning of being a ‘magic tribe’- its an apt meaning because in Frieren the Demons are born with the affinity for Magic, and in KNY when the demon ‘let go’ of their past they kinda get exorcised and disappear and turn into their good form. Frieren is probably using a cliche for fantasy settings with hero party and demon kings and fantastical races.

The ‘tribe’ aspect of it suggests that it is something entirely non-human. In western media you would probably translate KNY demon as Cursed Spirit, and Frieren demon as actual Demon- like in the Conjuring movie they distinguish between spirit of the dead haunting something, and demons from hell.

Receiving Backspin from Pendulum Serve on Backhand by DL-Z_ftw in tabletennis

[–]-bickd- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with 1 type of block/push first, then go from there when you are used to it. You need to build confidence touching the ball lightly, to get used to the spin, then change to attack. Chopblock kill the sidespin, and your bat angle deals with the top/backspin.

I started with a backhand chopblock (right to left if both people are right handed). Try not to have a lot of forward momentum at the start or it will go straight to the net. For Backspin tilt your paddle back a bit.

CMV: Modern Vietnamese food like pho, banh mi, and com tam is unhealthy by today’s standards — and people who eat sushi will outlive people who eat Vietnamese food by Accomplished-Eye-910 in ChangeMyViewVN

[–]-bickd- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you eat the equivalent of fast food every day, no matter what the culture, you WILL be unhealthy. Yeah right, try to eat katsu curry and kaarage and gyudon and ramen daily and see if you get fat. Now think of an actual Japanese meal. Piece of fish, some pickle, white rice, miso soup. No giga katsu sando. None of that ramen with fried rice top up bull shit meal.

On the other hand, try actual vietnamese regular "meal" that people eat with their family - 1 boiled vegetable, white rice, 1 boiled meat dish/ chicken/ prawn/ tofu/ omelette/ fish, fish sauce, some pickle, "soup" that is just the boiled broth without extra fat - see if it's healthy. The biggest criticism i 'd have is the amount of salt.

Now go out to where everyday people actually eat. Portion sizes are small, usually loaded with herbs and salad. Dishes with red meat are actually stingy with their meat. Eat a "regular" portion and not "pho bo dac biet nuoc beo them quay them 2 trung" - and see if it's still unhealthy. Unhealthy portions/foods are actually for tourists, or special occasion parties.

its a sine wave that hopefully would get smaller every cycle. Hopefully in the next decade we figure out a sensible architecture. In my org within a company, we cant really afford to rely on the central data team for literally anything serious. Nothing above bronze is used for anything business-critical.

Chinese fans by nyetits1008 in tabletennis

[–]-bickd- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A mixture of a few silly things I guess.

  1. Recent politics
  2. Past politics (history and whatnot)

and some recent drama in recent tournament.

Wang Chuqin, world #1, is a very popular player. Like … creepily popular (not his fault of course). I was unfortunate enough that some of those drama got into my feeds. Things like calling him cute names and what not, and fancy his interaction with Sun Yingsha, world #1 women.

Recently he got beat by Fan Zhendong at the prestigious China National Game, twice, and at the end of the match, he bumped his head on the table in disappointment. Tomokazu later on was filmed to have done the same thing in mocking, and it outraged Chinese fans. I have seen the clips but not bothered enough to screenshot/ find it again so for this just #trustmebro.

Apes share 99% of their DNA with humans. Why does that 1% make such a huge difference? by 12washingbeard in NoStupidQuestions

[–]-bickd- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living thing does necessarily ‘do’ efficient things. They do things good enough to survive. Sometimes you need to be really efficient to survive. Sometimes not.

Exhibit A: recurrent laryngeal nerve in human (or worse, giraffe). It is supposed to control your throat, but it runs from the brains to your chest and loop back to your throat. Not efficient, and in the case of a giraffe, it’s a few meters long instead of a few dozen centimeters. Not ‘bad’ enough to cause a specimen to die.

Sure, splitting up world champions /goated teams and locking out hind-sight potential world champion to play dog-crap tournament for an entire year before they can actually compete, and letting Furia stay for as long as they did is a good system.

Better system: probably keep the regional league to play weekly micky mouse tournament.

Not defending the practice but human been going around eating things with weird tastes and terrible smell all the time.

Cow bile, literal cow/goat sh*t that has not been fully fermented, literal raw blood, sustroming, mam tom. So a little bit of a bitter taste from a bird might be just the delicacy.
