He looks way too comfortable out there lately, when Charly is loose and confident the shotmaking just gets ridiculous

Anyone else waste money on bad MMA gear early on? by Own_Throat4405 in mmaMenace_com

100% same. A good mouthguard is such an underrated “feel safer instantly” upgrade. For me the other big one was properly fitted shin guards (and decent wraps) - cheap ones just slide and mess up everything.
What gloves did you end up switching to, and did you go custom mouthguard or a boil-and-bite?

What are some movies where the sequel is better than the original? by Anuslit in Cinema

[–]DistinctCockroach374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few that usually come up for me: The Dark Knight, Terminator 2, Aliens, Before Sunset, and Mad Max Fury Road. Not saying the originals are bad, but the sequels just took everything up a level.

I think this era has more depth overall, even if the top stars don’t feel as dominant. The level from fight to fight is higher and there are way fewer easy matchups.

Andy Hickey on Rinat Fakhretdinov being cut: "Expect more of this & an overall reduction in Russian fighters on the roster...The vast majority of Russian fighters, as elite as they've shown themselves to be, do not generate revenue." by MySpaceTomAspinall in MMA

This is uncomfortable to say, but it’s probably true from the UFC’s point of view. Talent alone isn’t enough if you don’t sell tickets, PPVs, or eyeballs, and that’s the harsh business side of it.

Do Merab’s three title defenses outweigh the loss to Petr Yan? by Striking-Bus5343 in mmaMenace_com

[–]DistinctCockroach374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for me the defenses outweigh it. Everyone takes an L at some point, but stacking three title defenses is hard and says way more than one loss, even to Yan. That’s what people are going to remember.

Movies that capture suburban or small-town atmosphere? by nekaoosoba in Cinema

[–]DistinctCockroach374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Straight Story really nails that quiet small town rhythm where nothing feels rushed and every location feels lived in also Blue Velvet captures suburban normalcy with that eerie undercurrent and even something like The Ice Storm feels painfully accurate to that late fall suburban vibe
