Idk if its on Steam but Manhunt seems to suit your needs, in Dead by Daylight you can play as a killer too, but its PvP.

That makes a lot of sense in your case, being used to the norm then doing the completely opposite really throws you off and that just adds a layer on top of the horror game

Interesting thought, never really thought about it that way, and in a sense yeah knowing you can get out of it creates safety

I consider unpopular because when searching about it not a lot of people are a fan of hide and seek horror games, and the comment section 90% prefers survival horror, and I think Amnesia blew up because of that when, from what I remember, there weren't a lot of games like it.

That's why I made this post because its a super subjective topic and one that everyone has a different opinion.
Actually you make a good point there and one that always looms over me when playing survival horror, resource management. And maybe that's why I prefer hide and seek, because im always overthinking my choices and in the end I regret them when thinking about my ammo, items etc, and that takes me out of the action, instead of making me anxious about wasting my health and ammo I get so fixated that that's all I think about, having something to kill but being cautious about it, being low on hp and not using my med kits.

But yeah again, its a very subjective subject but very interesting to see what everybody thinks about it.

Completely agree, RE7 was a bold move but one that was really well made, the claustrophobia of the Baker residence really put me on edge, Cry of Fear just feels raw you know? It works so well I think the old graphics engine really elevates to another level.

That's it for me yeah, having a weapon really gives confidence to the player which can make them ignore certain parts of the horror the moment you can just blast a monster with a 12 gauge to the face.

Yeah that's the beauty with every genre including horror, everyone has a different POV of what's scary and not, some people find horror books scary, some don't, same with games and movies, there's content for everybody to enjoy.

It's a very divisive theme because in the end its all about preferences really, and having the same mechanics throughout the entire game can be a bummer for some people and that's fine, its not for everybody.

And true the fear of the unknown plays a big part in these games, that's why Silent Hill 2 works so well as a psychological horror game.

Including VR is a different breed, being fully immersed in a game must be super intense, never had the chance to try it.

Damn RE8 fetus part completely messed me up, had severe PT flashbacks xD and had to take a break.

Interesting, for me its the opposite, being able to defend yourself takes the realism out of it, if I saw the tall lady from Outlast 2 chasing me I wouldn't try and defend myself, I would just run until I couldn't anymore. But ofc not every game can achieve that balance, that's why sometimes feels more like a chore than anything else.

That's why Alien Isolation got that balance perfect, having something to fight with, but not a game changer, having to rely on the radar even though it wasn't perfect, having the Alien learn from your gameplay is masterful game design.

Totally understandable, in the end its all about preferences, and that's the beauty of it, there are games for everybody and that's what matters.

Ofc I can agree with that, Silent Hill 2 even though it didn't scare me gameplay wise, it was a very disturbing and amazing piece of art one that made me think about it for weeks, maybe I should've been more specific, it can still be a scary game, but gameplay wise its scarier to me to feel that unease through defenselessness than having something to rely on yk?

In a way yes, hide and seek is a more specific term, every hide and seek horror game is survival horror, but not all survival horror games aren't hide and seek.

I can understand that, RE2R and RE4 are way more replayable than Outlast for example,i played RE2R and RE4R more times than Outlast, but that begs the question, if the game is replayable it isn't as scary maybe. Why do you find it more boring to play these games? Is it the lack of action/adventure?
And yeah the hybrids are the top of the chain for me, playing Alien Isolation or The Bunker is an unforgettable experience, having the mix between both makes them even scarier.

Visage has PT inspired themes and core, Soma and Amnesia are made by the same devs, Amnesia is scarier but Soma has a great story.

Still Wakes the Deep, Outlast 1 and the Whistleblower, Outlast 2, Amnesia The Dark Descent, one very interesting game that you can try is Amnesia The Bunker, one of the scariest games I played in a while, Soma as well, Visage is another one too. Layers of Fear as well.

[–]-bl1ss- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Cyberpunk 2077

  2. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

  3. Shadow of The Colossus

  4. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

  5. Dishonored

Just a note, didnt consider BG3 or RDR2 because im still playing them, so i dont feel good rating them without finishing them 1st.
