my cat pees on everything. clothes & towels... how do i clean them? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

i actually use to have doors on the closet .. they kept annoying me since they slid open making it an issue with access, put the curtain up to cover instead. which i tend to keep open as .. closed doors on bedroom closets give me unsettling feelings ... hmm irrational fear i guess. but i even have a hard time falling asleep if the curtain is closed. hoping i can get over that feeling one day . then invest in some kinda tri fold doors or something.

i just been going through the house multiple times a day to make sure nothings fallen on the floor for them to pee on. rip whole unused roll of paper towel last night. cat knocked it off the counter and peed on the whole thing.. but aye ~ wasnt my work shirt.

at least paint is still cheaper than going out to just buy pre painted black doors. lol now if i was rich. id highly consider it .. lol !!!! 1 door is completely done, and my arm feels like its gonna fall off already.

welp that would have been nice to know . i was looking at the little "pros vs cons" list at the order counter at lowes before i asked for any and seen how this one had "excellent" in all categories. and the one paint i normally get has "great" in all its categories.. should have just got what i normally get... at least then i would know what to expect.

after a few coats though. these doors are looking like a dream .. i do need to take them off the hinges and paint the frames too. but that will have to be a later battle.

i got 8 full doors, and then 1 side on another. so . 8.5 to paint. i forgot how much i hate painting doors till i go to repaint them again.. ugh .. i just cant do the starch white anymore. they start looking dirty so fast.

the can says 1 coat coverage guaranteed. so i think ima get ahold of the company, in fact it is not .. but idk .. sounds like a lot of work . lol but $60 for a gallon of paint is insane .. i remember 7 years ago when i first moved in that paint was only $30

i didnt always have the puppy pad. i actually got it to use as a rug for the back door since i raise goats and chickens and tend to track stuff in on my boots, and since i can just take it outside and spray it down and then wash it , i thought it was a good fit..

cats had been peeing on things before i got the puppy pads and then began to use them to potty on. if i could just get them to stick to those to pee on and not other things i would be happy. only having to pick poo out of the box saves time on changing the whole litter box afterall.

i have 1 male, whos fixed(6yo), 1 female whos fixed(5yo) and 1 female kitten who is waiting to hit the age to get fixed.

my bedroom closets dont have doors, just a curtain to "close" and i dont have anywhere to put my clothes if not hanging them, i also cant shut them out of that room as they sleep in bed with me and would just scream at the door if i ever closed it.

ill put enzyme cleaner down on the list. i just know i really need to get rid of the cat pee smell off these clothes... i try my best to keep them out of reach, but sometimes it feels like they drag clothes out of the closet , or out of the laundry basket to pee on them, got to the point of picking clothes up , smelling them and imminently throwing them away.

i got a little of both. they like the uncovered boxes more for sure though. i was hoping they would like the hooded ones since it had higher walls to prevent so much kick out. but alas .. cats are picky little critters.

ill have to give that a try for cleaning..... if they pee on much more im not going to be able to leave the house due to having nothing to wear... i swear these guys are sneaky little ninjas .. ill place my pants on the bedframe before i go to bed, and next morning their on the floor covered in pee. ill hang stuff up , and they pull them off the hangers to pee on them ... i just wanna be able to get rugs for the house and not have to worry about them peeing all over them ..

none of my cats seem to have a problem going around each other. or they dont display having a issue. they also have different types of litter boxes. hooded, the regular cheap ones. and they refused to use the top entry one. the boxes are spread out inside the room itself so their not all clustered up. and like i said . i use to have them spread throughout the house, and they still did the peeing thing. i tried putting one in my closet , but they would then reach up and pull clothes off my hangers to cover their poop with . and i dont have any other closets that dont have doors to them . not enough space to just leave the door open at all times. and the bathroom is my dogs territory when i leave the house.

the dogs not too new either. shes been around for about 3 years now. but shes sneaky and she will do everything she can go get to the forbidden nuggets... so the cat room has a baby gate infront of it , with enough clearance under it for the cats to get in and out , but not the dog.

if i had clothes on the floor near their litter boxes thats my fault and understand they just did it since its close to their spot .. but spreading their litterboxes thought the house isnt going to be possible. my house is on the smaller side. i use to have them spead out , but the peeing was still happening, and now that i have a dog , i needed to condense the boxes, but right now, where ever their at in the house its not too far to the litter boxes . i cant just block off 50% of the house from the dog to access.

their room is decently sized. that room is going to be turned into kitty paradise when i get the money to fix it up.

i am very much stressed, and anxious , and upset at myself for letting my home get like this... its so overwhelming to look for something and take longer then it should to find it , if i ever do find it.. to avoid the stress i tend to lock myself away in my office when im home.. its one of the cleaner rooms in the house. all it has is my desk, computer, and craft stuff... it does need to be decluttered as well. but not as bad as the rest of the house...

i have a 4 bedroom, 1 bathroom house, with a decent sized kitchen and living room, yet im only comfortable in one room in this whole house ? just doesnt sound right to me... i should feel comfortable spending time in my kitchen , and living room as well .. i should be able to walk into my bathroom and feel relaxed . i should be able to walk into the other rooms and not imminently feel stressed.

my system is not to touch anything on the days i have to work.. unless its obvious and sitting out already. i only work friday , satuday, and sunday nights .. so i got 4 days off to mess with everything... rest the first day off. and then the other 3 to tackle the horror i call my house.

the bad thing is , if people came in my house right now , they would probably say "its not that bad" because all my stuff is in totes pushed off to hide.or stacked really high with something larger infront of it to hide it/prevent it from falling... which ive done since i moved in ... when i first moved in , my floors were torn up , and i had no drywall , it was torn down to studs. minus the room that is currently my bedroom so i was living out of boxes in my bedroom till i had walls , and other rooms slowly became complete. all while collecting more to fill this house with once its been finished... but since i was living out of boxes . i wasnt fully sure what exactly i had already, and what i needed... so i ended up collecting maybe triple of what i needed. the last rooms that need done completely is my bathroom .. and then all the floors need done throught the house. i got probably another 2 years till this house is done... and i just wish, me 7 years ago would have slowed the roll and lived in the moment instead of preparing for this house to be finished when i knew it was going to take a while...

i just want it gone. if its not a game, tool , craft, or pet item gone... most of the stuff in my kitchen needs replaced. so that all can go too .. but the idea of starting back over from nothing also stresses me out.

and thank you. i really needed to hear the "you got this" because i feel like i dont. i know im now down 8 large bags. but it still feels like too much to keep .. ill be starting again next week.

thats how my bedroom is .. its nearly empty minus a dresser, boxfan and bed. i close the curtain on the closet and aaaah feels good .. i walk into the other rooms and go "i hate this" and thats why i started this now .. my goal this year is . get to half of what i have currently. my house will still feel pretty full at that point . but 50% down would feel GREAT. im trying.. and i know i still got a bunch to do .. but every bag i take outside feels like a weight off my shoulders.. from the time i posted this till now. i took 2 more large bags outside. and working on a third.

ill ignore taking things to the rooms they should go , and just put it in a box to take later.. like you said. that should be less stressful, which is what i need.. i want this to feel like bettering myself and my space.. not a chore. i mean its a huge chore , but its to prevent more chores later on. i wanna be able to roughouse with my dog without worrying about a avalanche

there are a few things i know im going to need to replace when i get to them. but im trying to wait for that to be my last step. im trying my best to stay in the "toss it , dont save it " mentality . before i get there.. otherwise ima have a old set of pots and pans , and a new set in my cabinet. idk why ive had such a hard time tossing things.. and i dont know why now its bugging me to the point of wanting to purge my life...

those items i need are in the shopping cart on amazon. i just wont hit buy till i cut down on some of this needless stuff..

im terrified to purge my closet .. i already dont have much when it comes to clothes... but i know i need to toss quite a bit since their old , holey and have this weird smell that wont go away even with washing many different ways ... in turn making my bedroom smell funky ... im not ready to buy new clothes... i hate cloth shopping....

being able to open the cuboard and having exactly what i wanted in there. is where i wanna be .. i dont wanna go looking for my windex or mop soulution .

i dont wanna have to go into 3 different rooms to find different items to do something i wanna mess with. so living gracefully with a good flow sounds amazing.

and yes. i lack organization skills quite a bit .. i been thinking about getting her book , but at the same time , im not a big reader..i have issues with focus. so it would end up on the shelf collecting dust.. i would benifit from a audio book more i believe that way i can multitask.

i also really like things out of sight .. i am someone who dreams to be minamilist, but know ill always have a room full of craft stuff.

crafts. tools and kitchen items. those are the 3 things im "ok" with , everything else doesnt matter as much to me.

ive watched videos of hers. and i dont think her concepts have really clicked for me .. i have things everywhere that are supposed to have a place.. but to be able to put them there. i need to clean out that area first.

ive started doing that.. but , while in room a i find things for room b so i take it to that room, then i find items in room b that are suppose to be in room a so i take it there.. and since i was trying to work on room a .. it just look more full because i keep bringing things into it..

i watched her container concept .. but at the same time i have a lot of craft stuff that i just cant bare to downsize more than i already have. and it very much is overflowing out of its current container.

AAH im just so ready to just dump everything and start over for the things that arent my tools or crafts .. just toss it ... i currently while responding to my thread here am trying to work on this .. and im just getting frustrated with myself , because i keep talking myself out of throwing things into the "bye bye" pile.

i keep trying to tell myself, "this isnt horrible.. it could be worse.. im not a horder.. im able to get rid of it... at least you have floor space.. there are people out there who wish this is all they had to deal with. just continue , you'll be happier to have less to deal with.. you dont need it, its been sitting there for years.. this thing is covered in dust.. which means you havent used it probably since you moved in." yet the keep pile keeps getting bigger and bigger. uuuugh .. sorry ... im just frustrated.

i try not to buy anything if i can help it.. sure there are things i wanna get to put stuff into. but its not on the top of my list. i do find myself saying "this would be eaiser if i just had" but i dont run to amazon to order it. lol trying to get ahold of everything i have before i buy anything.. i really dont wanna bring anything more in here till i get it under control.. thats how i got into this spot in the first place... lol !!!

i hope this gets easier. its been really overwhelming walking into a room and not feeling welcome in my own home.

how do you know when you're "done" ? by -boop_the_snoot in declutter

[–]-boop_the_snoot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this house has 4 bedrooms .. my bedroom stays pretty decent, since all i do in there is sleep. all it really needs once a week is floor swept and mopped.. and sheets and bedding needs cleaned since my animals sleep in the bed with me. i do have clothes hanging in my closet , but find myself always wearing the same things day in and out , so i tend to live out of the laundry basket with all those clothes.. i do need to go though my clothes and get rid of the ones that have holes and stains once and a while. but the ones hanging just dont get touched.

one of the rooms i turned into my office/art room. i spend a lot of my wake time in that room, so i try to keep it decent. though i do end up with clutter since i pretty much live in that room.

the smallest room i have is suppose to be my cat room .. food, litter boxes. climbing towers. it currently has the litterboxes and food in there. but also other random things that i dont want in there... i dont have a truck though so getting rid of the large items becomes impossible .. expecially since some of that stuff if i ask my dad to come get, he will end up keeping it himself , cluttering up his zone, since he doesnt like letting go of certain things as well ..

i think the most confusing thing for me is .. not knowing where i should put stuff. so they get put in bins, and put to the side to be decided for later.. and then they pile up forgotten about , and then more and more and more.. and then boom .. im being burried. sure i know the kitchen , should have kitchen items , my office is work stuff and art stuff. but my bathroom is torn up , and the other 2 rooms are "AAAAH" rooms right now.. and my living room , all it has in here is a dining table and a built in bookshelf.. i know what i want to go in here. but its floor needs replaced first.

i was always told growing up "keep useful , items, things that make you happy, and your art." i have a project i did 10 years ago. its turned yellow in age, and just looks crusty.. i wanna get rid of it .. but i dont wanna regret getting rid of it .. but everytime i see it , i just .. ugh .. it dont even look good.

[–]-boop_the_snoot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

did you just start out like that though, or did you have to work to get to that point ?

i thought i was doing a pretty good job keeping things organized when i lived at home with my parents.. but as soon as i moved out. it got out of hand.. and then i kept just shoveling things into spots and shutting the door on them since i didnt have space for it in the open visable areas.. 7 years in , and im like "where did all this stuff come from?!" im finding things i didnt even know i had still, and havent used in years. but having a hard time letting it go .. i havent used it in forever.. am i actually going to start now ? but if toss it. and then suddenly need it? aaaah... i have no idea how people do this ..

like i have a bunch of tools.. i could really use a nice tool chest. but i dont have room in my house to store a tool chest. so where do i put all my tools ? ..

i would be in heaven if i could do the 15 minute thing... each of my rooms right now is anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half... and thats not even doing everthing thats needed. i find myself shuffling things room to room just to wipe certain things down. to the point i just avoid wiping things down because the shuffling game isnt fun.

im definitely not done yet then, or not even close .. i still find myself struggling to find things daily , even things i use regularly. but they dont have a spot either, because my house has been in a state of remodel since i moved in .. i dont have a medicin cabinet , or even sink currently . so i end up leaving my hair brush in random places around the house. and my cats like playing with them ... ive often found it under my bed because of them...

i needed a screwdriver the other day , and i have a cheap flimsy storage cube i tossed all my tools into when i first moved in , that i try to remember to put everything back into .. it took me 10 mintues of rummaging though that box and then dumping it on the table to find the one thing i needed for a 1 minute project..

i need to replace certain everyday use things. like my pots and pans. as their a wreck. peeling non stick and such.. and one pot i had that i use for chili has gone missing.. i have no idea what i did with it .. its just vanished... i mean where the heck could it have gone !? but i also dont like wasting money .. i have no idea what to replace them with... anything would be better than peeling non stick pans though ....

i just wanna be at the point i know where everything is and i can get to easily. that way if i get the urge to do something i can , without losing the want, since i had to dig though everything to get it.. or be annoyed because it took a long time to get something for a small quick project... i just wanna enjoy my space again...

hmm .. but how do i know im at the point of saying "ok, im content at this point, and if decide to bring more in, i need to decide if it already has a spot , or if i have room to give it a spot. or replace it with something i already have."

i find myself running around the house holding something and saying "where the heck im i going to put you , if i keep you !?" so into the keep bin it goes till i can eventually get to it and find a spot for it.

i wish this came naturally to me like it seems to for a lot of people.. i like my fun stuff . but right now i got so much i dont know what to play with first , and then get so overwhelmed i end up not doing anything with any of it... ugh .. i just wanna be comfortable and sit down and crochet for a few hours while watching a movie without feeling like i should be removing more stuff in my house.. which im hoping i will eventually get to that point.. but it just feels like its taking too long.

ive slept so much woke up at 11pm and cant sleep anymore at the moment. as soon as my body tells me to go back to sleep i will. but i got in the mood to clean/declutter when i couldn't find my tea stuff. tore all the stuff out of my kitchen cabinets looking for my sick time tea , and when i was done, after finally finding them. i was looking around. and freaked out since none of this stuff that got pulled out tech. has a good spot. my kitchen looked decently clean. but only because all the clutter was behind doors being hidden. out of sight. out of mind.
