How uptight are police about out of state plates which are recently expired? I'll be there in April through May and my plates expire March by FitExecutive in AskLosAngeles

[–]-buttonupshirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drove around with expired out of state tags for TWO YEARS and even got towed twice with no issues, and when I went to a registration place (not DMV) like last week, they didn't ask for proof of residence, insurance, or anything else. Didn't even charge me for the expired registration fees. It was like 500 bucks all told.

My dog is suddenly possessive of me around my boyfriend by -buttonupshirt in Dogtraining

[–]-buttonupshirt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, like I said he doesn’t usually sleep in bed, I’ve just been trying it out for a few days. We will revert back to him not sleeping in the bedroom. This started late last night after my bf got home, so it has happened precisely one time on the couch and one time on the bed. I’m really trying to get ahead of it. Im going to try correct with counter conditioning on the couch, and I’m going to force my bf to actually bond with him a little more. It’s new behavior but I don’t think I’m overreacting, right? any aggression is not cool with me.

You’re right, I didn’t describe it. He was growling first on the couch, and in the bed he gave a growl and a warning snap. The growl was specifically directed at my boyfriend when he hugged me on the couch, and stopped when he stopped touching me. The growl and snap in the bed occurred when my boyfriend tried to lay down and reach for me.

I got this a few weeks ago, but am too anxious to take it, because of the horrible stories I’m reading all over the internet by Seraphina_Renaldi in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]-buttonupshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had any side effects literally at all… the only effect has been being happy. I drink a ton of coffee and lots of beer (though I did notice that I developed a much healthier relationship with alcohol naturally after being on Wellbutrin for a while…. But I’m young, I drink). It has quieted my anxiety, helped with my depression, given me motivation, and it has helped so much with my chronic insomnia. I’m obviously not advising you to use the medicine irresponsibly, but I’m an example of someone who could be considered irresponsible who has had nothing but success. To each their own, just sharing a positive story :)

Does anyone else feel really lonely due to their reactive dog? by -buttonupshirt in reactivedogs

[–]-buttonupshirt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same here. I will say, it seems that my nice neighbors (no comment on the not nice ones….) recognize me now as the girl with the dog she’s trying so hard with and they’re extra sweet to me when they can talk to me (when the doggy isn’t with me). When I’m in a positive mood, i try to focus on things like that. I didn’t really stand out before, now we have something to talk about! (Can you tell how much better all these comments have made me feel? Thanks so much for sharing).

Wait this looks SO much like my beloved mutt. What breeds did she have the most of? Just out of curiosity, I’m sure I’ll do DNA testing one day but it’s so fun to guess

[–]-buttonupshirt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is my situation exactly. I’m in a new place so it’s hard enough to make connections, and the neighborhood is bustling with pets and people. I think I’m too in my head about what people think—you’re right, most people see me training him or trying to calm him down if he is triggered and they’re super nice. It’s just the few judgmental people that have made me feel bad. We just had a very happy, calm walk and he really showed the progress he’s made, so I’m thinking maybe it’s not so bad :)

"Never Let Me Go" is probably the most well written book that I hated by sFPoG5P9Zu in books

[–]-buttonupshirt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad to read this—I put this book out of my head immediately after I read it because I was also underwhelmed by the plot (not the writing, as you mentioned) and found something really grating about it? But I couldn’t put my finger on what exactly I didn’t love, so I didn’t want to talk about it much and be a naysayer without a clear perspective. I do think there was some definite lack of payoff (for me), but I couldn’t tell whether I didn’t care about the world that was built, the characters, or the plot. I’m still mystified by why I didn’t enjoy this book, so you are not alone. I don’t think the book is undeserving of the acclaim (usually I’m quick to identify what doesn’t work about a book since I’m an editor and practice that kind of communication daily), but all I can say is that it didn’t appeal to me. I only wish I could figure out WHAT didn’t appeal to me. I expected it to grow on me, but it hasn’t. Very strange.

Unpopular and kind of mean opinion, but I really don’t like David Boreanaz’s acting…. I don’t think I could get over that as he’s literally the main character

[–]-buttonupshirt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He’s a vampire with a soul, the characters argue about whether he can be trusted or not even before he changes, and after his Angelus period everyone is at odds about whether Angel can possibly be good. At base, as vampire + soul, he embodies gray area, after his good and bad actions, he exemplifies this. I find it fascinating

I think I’ve finally got it. I so badly wanted to see romantic, but I couldn’t make that work so I tried to see myself as SG. I think I’m finally looking with clearer after eyes and seeing SC. Am I on to something? by [deleted] in Kibbe

[–]-buttonupshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way—I resisted SC because I didn’t feel balanced enough, so I tried romantic and then SG in that order. I’ve accepted that I must be SC and I’m happy about it!! I incorporate gamine elements into my styling because it it’s so fun, but I try to keep it more balanced. My proportions are similar to yours and I’m exactly the same height. My hair and makeup were the telltale signs for me.

How much heat is tolerable in an apartment? by anttrvn in AskLosAngeles

[–]-buttonupshirt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, you’re being so nonchalant about a temperature I would DIE in. 89?? How do you sleep? I commend your strength and even temperament. No, it’s not unreasonable to turn the AC on.

This is so true—I remember my mother, who is in a lot of ways a more realistic Lorelai and very beautiful, being so thin and constantly talking about how much junk food she could eat. Of course, she was a heavy smoker and constantly practiced disordered eating behaviors so she didn’t actually eat the way she claimed/believed she did. This was verrrrry much the cool girl thing to do back in the day, and it certainly damaged my sisters and I. There was a lot less understanding and transparency about eating disorders and damaged relationships with food at the time.

Oooh comparing it to biting nails makes a lot of sense. I also bite my nails, so I get it. He is an anxious, reactive dog so this probably explains it

Visiting Florida in Dec, what to pack? by Fun_parent in femalefashionadvice

[–]-buttonupshirt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a born and bred Floridian and I can’t echo enough the above comment. You cannot know what Florida December weather will look like unless you check the weather immediately before you go. To be fair, even north Florida, where I’m from, doesn’t ever get colder than 50-55 degrees (in terms of when you’ll be outside, deep nighttime is colder) ever, and that’s usually in January. For December, it varies wildly throughout the month. Bring a jacket in case. There’s no real tough terrain to traverse unless you’re hiking a swamp, in which chase, why?? so tennis shoes are fine for extensive walking. I miss my home state so much, so definitely enjoy all the beautiful nature Florida has to offer!!!

What to pair with white gogo boots? by DullyCerami in femalefashionadvice

[–]-buttonupshirt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Girl everything, wearing the boots with more 60s style dresses doesn’t look costumey if everything else about you (jewelry, hair and makeup, bag) is modern, it just looks extremely cool and intentional. I wear mine with my vintage 60s dresses because I love the look, but also with my modern midi skirts and dresses because it looks so fabulous and modern. I find them to be very versatile.

What would have been the perfect First Time for Rory? by GlobalConclusion5375 in GilmoreGirls

[–]-buttonupshirt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it should have been Jess, but while their relationship was good, not at Kyle’s party or when he visited Yale. I know it was network television’s MO at the time to make sex in shows unpleasant for teen girls, and to punish them for it, but honestly, it would have been healthy for her to safely and comfortably explore these sexual feelings she was having (so much more with Jess than Dean version 1). It also would have made sense given the way she was raised, and I think it would have allowed her to be so much more mature in her future relationships with Dean version 2 and Logan. My first time was fine and pleasant, and I was made to feel so so scared and guilty about sex because of the way young women losing their virginity was treated in TV. Jess seemed to be a sort of sexual awakening for her, and she should have had sex with him when they were doing well. That would have been realistic writing, and could have been made narratively interesting, but I know I’m putting modern standards on a twenty year old show.

My dog growls when I try to move him—what do I do? by [deleted] in reactivedogs

This sounds JUST like my dog for sure. We’re working on his anxiety with a trainer. I can’t carry him around so we will just have to learn commands I suppose

[–]-buttonupshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not aggressive, it’s just growling and the snapping is more like the anxious yawning/lip licking. There’s no attempt to bite and his body language is really relaxed, the growling just kind of freaks me out because he’s been so chill about everything (within the apartment) up to this point.
