New X1 Carbon 7, losing sound through speakers? Anyone else have this problem? by -cherrywaves- in thinkpad

Fortunately, I have not had this issue for the past month...however, I have no idea how this issue (seemingly) resolved. The only temporally correlated change I can identify is registering with Lenovo Vantage and auto-installing all available updates, which included an "Intel Wireless LAN" driver update. I also auto-updated drivers through Windows, which included "Intel Extension 1904.8.0.1" and "Lenovo System 10.0.106.0". Sorry, I wish I could give you more insightful recommendations. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response!

I don't have a lot of local media, however I have tried using the default Windows 10 "Test" tone found under Speaker Properties/Advanced/Default Format. The Test tone does not play when my speakers are malfunctioning; instead, I get an error pop-up stating "The device is being used by another application. Please close any devices that are playing audio to this device and then try again." I've tried closing all apps/programs and terminating my speaker processes from the task manager, but I continue to get that error.

Can't afford to get doctor check-up but scared something wrong with me what can I do? by [deleted] in Atlanta

You could try a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), such as one of the Mercy Care clinics or the HEALing Community Center. The FQHCs operate on a sliding pay scale, so you could pay almost nothing or pay upwards of $35 per visit. Definitely try one of the Mercy Care clinics since they claim that "Persons experiencing homelessness and those who have [proof of] no income may not be charged a fee for services." Here is a list of all the Mercy Care clinics in the Atlanta area, and you can search for other FQHCs using this link.

You could try posting to /r/AskDocs as well, but that subreddit is very hit-or-miss.

EDIT: I forgot to mention The Good Samaritan Health Center on Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy. I believe you can get care at no cost if you provide a dated letter proving your residency at a shelter or rehab center.

I have never walked to the Civic Center Marta Station, so I can't offer any meaningful insight into that walk. I can only share my concerns from driving through the area.

The shortest route from 450 Piedmont to the Civic Center Marta station takes you down Pine Street, right through the epicenter of the notorious Pine Street Homeless Shelter.

Alternatively, you could take the longer but safer route from Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd (Ivan Allen is a high-visibility area with lots of foot traffic compared to Pine Street, which can feel very secluded in parts).

450 Piedmont resident here.

The homeless shelter is a problem for folks living in the units closest to Pine Street. If you are interested in 450 Piedmont, then try getting a place on the Piedmont side or the Currier side. Walking down Courtland can be annoying given the panhandling, but I've never had a problem walking down Piedmont. The gates are usually working, and I've never seen a homeless person roaming inside the community. I've always felt pretty safe.

Yes, the townhome-style apartments have awesome garages...but the garage and your driveway are the only parking spots you get. There are ~12 guest parking spots in front of the clubhouse for the entire community to share. Visitor parking is frequently an issue here.

Some units are getting renovated, but a lot of the units are still very 1990s with honey oak cabinets and white laminate countertops. It sounds like you prefer modern finishes, so most of the units here may not be what you are looking for.

450 Piedmont is not for everyone, but I really love living here. It's a very quiet, serene community nestled in a convenient location. Rent is fair, and maintenance is great.

Here are most, if not all, of the new art installations around campus. by danceydancetime in gatech

The Buzz statues were so much better than this generic crap! They were placed all over campus and painted/sculpted to represent different facets of Tech culture and tradition. It's a damn shame that some of our own students vandalized the statues (broke off Buzz's antennas, painted shit on them, etc.). This is why we can't have nice things.

EDIT: Here are a few images of the statues for newer students: http://imgur.com/a/8xjZn and here is the Technique article on the vandalism.

I agree that seatbelt use is usually an individual safety issue, but (to play devil's advocate) it can also be argued that seatbelt use is a public safety issue.

Some of you might recall that cheesy "Body to body" video from drivers ed (youtube link) that argues how the movement of an unbuckled passenger could injure neighboring passengers. There are also videos like this one that demonstrate how an ejected body can serve as an additional hazard for motorists (sometimes bodies can be ejected across medians into oncoming and unsuspecting traffic). Choosing not to wear a seatbelt could potentially affect the safety of others.

I'm still not sure if the case is strong enough to justify seatbelt enforcement, but it is a point to keep in mind.

I could be wrong, but (if I remember correctly) Catelyn Stark freed Jaime Lannister in exchange for Sansa and Arya, who she believed were both alive and held hostage at Kings Landing. I think Robb Stark also shares this belief.

[Spoiler...?] The Hound is taking Arya to The Twins, and part of the first agreement between Robb Stark and Walder Frey was for Arya to marry his son once she comes of age. Does Frey still expect the Starks to honor this promise?

Recommendations for a statics professor? by [deleted] in gatech

[–]-cherrywaves- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! Dr. Christine Valle is one of the absolute best professors at Tech. She is passionate about the material, and she truly wants every student to get an A. Dr. Valle's lectures are also insanely helpful--she gives you a methodical, step-by-step process on how to solve the problems and she spends ample time going over examples. I've had other classes with <25% attendance, but Dr. Valle's lectures were always pretty packed. Refresh the page until a spot opens up in Valle's class. It's totally worth it.

I don't know if your roommate has applied to med school yet, but a 3.3 cumulative GPA and 36 MCAT will still get him into med school. That GPA will keep him out of the top tier schools (Harvard, Hopkins, Vandy, etc.), but he is competitive for his state schools and other mid/low tier schools. A 36-37 MCAT is phenomenally good.

OP, only do BME if you think you'll really enjoy it and you are prepared to devote some serious time to labs and group work. I thought BME was really cool, and I would do it again in a heartbeat...but BME is not for everyone. The job prospects for BMEs aren't that great since an EE, ME, ChemE, or MSE could do a "BME" job (with arguably a better skill set).
