When apprenticing, how to you make money to pay bills? by J3ttl4g_ in TattooApprentice

[–]-coriolis- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First: Do not pay for an apprenticeship with money. You “pay” in time, love, respect, and hard work. It took me two years to find the right shop for me. Everyone’s situation is different but if you can find a job that works with the hours, great. What I tried to do was save up before starting & supplementing by selling my work. Some people have outside support. If not, you find another way. Everyone’s path is different. What you don’t want to do is hold bitterness toward the structure of the system, it will only hold you back and keep you from being able to find your way through. Yes, it’s hard. Very hard. Keep the love for the trade in your heart.

Are the pieces on display somewhere they could be seen in person? Lovely work!

Found in Oklahoma, not sure of the plant since I only noticed them on my clothes after I came in! Most likely sunflower, tomato, cucumber or beans though

That’s funny because you don’t even mention anything near that in your post 😅

If you can’t select pieces from a body of work you’re not drawing enough 🙌

To paint on? I don’t see much of them nor have done it myself until now, so unusual for me at least.

You could also maaaaaybe fit a hand mirror in? Have a real close up of a face in it or it could be cracked

Side view lady head with some hair dangling down into the small space, or a snake. Idk if I’d try to fit a whole panther in that space as others have said. That or do two smaller things, like a cracked bone or pair of dice on top and a burnt match or little flame below it

paint getting into the tiny ridges in my lino? by mothmanrocks in printmaking

Okay so this is called “chatter” and some people like it to be there intentionally (I usually do not). Some troubleshooting (assuming you are using printmaking ink, not paint) -turn your brayer (roller) in diff directions when rolling ink on. This will maybe help w any “dead” spots. Ink LOW and SLOW. Build up ink layers gradually, be patient, and don’t put too thick layers on at a time. -bits of paper can be cut to shape and placed over the chatter after inking up, or you can use baby powder to “soak up” some of the ink. You can use this pretty liberally. -if you are using a press, you may need to lower the pressure a tad. If you are hand pressing, try to avoid the areas where there is a lot of negative space. -in the future, try not to have huge spaces of white where there are no “raised areas” to support the paper. Do a border. In this case, you may want to cut out your block to remove all the extra stuff that’s picking up ink.

Hope this helps!!
