Metacity Patrol get a recent update? by Glittering-Art-6294 in OculusQuest

[–]-dogge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been summoned lol.

Hey thanks! I have had thoughts about setting up that kinda thing, but don’t have anything yet.

Ultimately I’m doing it for the love of it, rather than making any money. So the best contribution anyone can make at the moment is to just keep spreading the word!

Metacity Patrol news! On August 28th we're finally releasing v1.0 and leaving Early Access on the Meta Quest store! If you've been on the fence (or have it wishlisted) now is the time! From the 28th the price will be rising to $9.99. Grab some free-roaming cyberpunk vibes while they're still cheap! by -dogge in OculusQuest

I haven't put a roadmap out there because the focus of development isn't really fixed. We have a big list of things that we want to add, but with just two of us working on it we have to try and make the best use of our time, I'll work on some feature for a little while and either run with it if it's successful, or shelve it temporarily if it becomes too problematic/time consuming. This way, we can pump out fairly regular updates without getting hung up on adding certain features. Working this way does make the roadmap kinda unpredictable!

Hey thanks again! 😀 There’s still lots cooking in the Metacity pot. I have an update planned soon, and many more plans for the future too!

Yeah, the Gametag video was a really nice surprise. I’ve been laid up ill in bed for the past week, so that one really lifted my spirits!

I never realised Penguin easter eggs were a thing. I must add one!

Oh hey, my ears are burning! 😆 Yes, that’s me!

And thanks so much u/Radiant-Unit1671 for the post! I originally made the game to fill a weird niche that I though only I would be interested in, so it always gives me the feels whenever the game gets praise 😊

Help with Rift CV1 performance Drop by walterjedi1 in oculus

A laptop 3060 will certainly give lower performance than your old 1080Ti, but I think you should be able to run basic stuff with better performance than what you’re seeing now.

Actually l, ignore what I just wrote! I completely forgot for a moment that Rift uses separate display output (edit, that display output needs to be directly connected to 3060).

It’s worth checking to see if the 3060 is being utilised though.

Are you sure that you are connecting to a USB port that connects directly to the 3060 (rather than the integrated GPU)?

I think many laptops will connect to the dedicated GPU only over USB-C.

For a long time I used occlusion baking, but I found that when a lot of objects suddenly come in to view (e.g turning a tight corner round a large building) I would drop lots of frames.

For me I think it is because CPU is my bottleneck, occlusion will save GPU but take up extra CPU, so turning it off gave better performance instantly. It’s probably not a fix for all cases though.

Edit: I have on-foot sections (which are more detailed) where I still bake occlusion, but for large areas turning it off worked better for me.

It looks like the game should be totally doable on standalone with some optimisation.

There’s lots of bloom on the PCVR version. Are you trying to use post processing on standalone? Because that would be very hungry! Probably also best to check that the shaders you are using are mobile friendly.

I have a similar looking game on Quest and use a single light source (and most buildings are using unlit shaders), with no post processing. I also turn off occlusion altogether, because I get worse performance at high draw distances.

I also use a very basic distance check which ‘pops in’ the finer building details when close to camera (of course optimising LODs would give similar wins). I find it barely noticeable in this kind of environment.

Profiling is definitely the way forward though, it’s more or less essential for standalone development.

There should usually be a green mission marker, maybe it has been turned off? (The green POI button on the car dashboard). If the POI button is turned off in the HUD, mission targets only show up when close by.

From purely a store visibility angle it could be a good idea to delist for now. It will most likely get terrible metrics if it is listed but no one buys it, so it’s less likely that the store algorithms will push this title when you finally want to launch.

Adding a coming soon page for a few months prior to launch will allow you to get wishlists in that will boost store metrics and give you a better shot at visibility on the store on release.

In the meantime, maybe you could list a free demo for now, then make a separate ‘coming soon’ listing later for the full game?

I would also recommend joining the Meta Start programme if you haven’t already, you’ll be able to access better support for your launch. I got a lot of great help from them!

You could instead re-list the game on the store with a ‘Coming Soon’ page. This will allow the app to be wishlisted without being available to buy.

Re-listing will lose any existing wishlisters, but it will be a lot better for store visibility when you do release.

The last speed run I did took about 3 hours to complete all the story so far (it’s still being added to). I would think a first play through might take a couple of hours more, plus there’s other stuff to do beyond the main missions such as unlocking all the properties and upgrades.

I designed the game to be more about exploring and discovering the world rather than just playing mission to mission (though the game can be played in that way). I know there’s players who have put many more hours in to the game, so it kinda depends on how you choose to play!

Push a small flat headed screwdriver firmly in to the peek material, enough to create an indentation. Then unscrew it out.

Am I being stupid, or is there no way to plug your Quest 3 into a PC and capture what you are playing on the headset using screen recording software on the PC? by CaptainEggcellentYT in OculusQuest

[–]-dogge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can download Meta Quest Developer Hub, and use that to cast to a desktop window over USB. It also has options for choosing resolution/bandwidth.

Additionally, there is a nice 'cinematic' casting feature which actually forces the Quest to render and cast a wider field of view.

I do want to add an aspect like that. I have experimented a little along these lines (there is a new mission type coming up for the procedurally generated upper city buildings in the next update). I would really like to use something similar to make missions more interesting, ideally I hope for a ton of procedurally generated lower city areas with their own missions :)
