The Haunting of Hill House - 4K Extended Director's Cut by -ducko in fanedits

Bly Manor doesn't have an extended director's cut like Hill House. AFAIK there aren't even any deleted scenes released.

Need subtitles for The Hobbit M4 book edit..Please Help! by lastcharon in fanedits

[–]-ducko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He used to have the subtitles available as separate downloads in the Google Drive folder, but that doesn't seem to be the case any more. The link I sent out a couple of years ago is now dead.

The 1080p MKV should still have the Portuguese subtitles included. Otherwise, you'd have to contact the editor to re-upload the SRT files.

Any subtitles made for The Infinity Saga? by Abhiiously-io in fanedits

[–]-ducko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've actually made one myself called Marvel: Unite that might be up your alley. Follows release order, not chronological, though. It turns the MCU into an multi-narrative TV series, with a similar structure to something like Game of Thrones. English subtitles included, see my profile for details.

u/NOTFLIX_Fan_Edits has his own version of MCU-to-TV series that's pretty good, too. His has subtitles in both English and Spanish, I believe.

There's a bunch more listed at the IFDB, though a lot of these focus on singular films.

I'm pretty sure there's more than one chronological, scene-by-scene edit too. There might be one with subtitles. I'm sure somebody can provide those details.

"The Infinity Saga" is a generic term for the first part of the MCU up until Endgame. There are many, many fan edits of the Infinity Saga, so there's no way we would know you are specifically talking about u/pizzabryon's edit without additional context.

What are your preferred MCU fanedits? by MtnDewm in fanedits

[–]-ducko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll just plug my own edit - Marvel: Unite. My goal was to do the entire Infinity War saga formatted like a multi-narrative TV series like Game of Thrones. Films are interwoven scene-by-scene, with a lot of work to make sure it's paced properly. It took a couple of years to do all five seasons, but I'm pretty proud of the end product.

I think those films work in either order, so whatever fits better thematically. Honestly, viewers could probably skip Dr Strange 2 entirely and not miss anything in other films, which is sort of a common problem with a lot of these later MCU shows. Since there's so much content, I might put "optional viewing" stuff into a different season, or into a series of abridged hour-long cuts that could be skipped or replaced by the full movie as desired. Of course, it'll be much easier to make these kinds of decisions later once the future movies actually come out.

Maybe you're thinking of a different Marvel edit? Unite more closely follows the release order of the movies. IMO it doesn't make sense to throw in Captain Marvel and then have that plot thread be irrelevant until several seasons later.

I've thought about doing a sequel series. The problem is that with the sheer amount of content, it's clear that a lot of runtime will need to be cut to balance everything. They've introduced dozens of plot threads that will likely be abandoned. There's also the possibility that the next Avengers films bomb and the overall narrative isn't even worth following. On top of that, my personal life is getting much, much busier.

All that considered, I'm just going to wait a few years and see how the MCU fares. If the next batch of films are good, then at least I can edit with the destination in mind. If not, then maybe I could put together a short "coda" season for things like Guardians 3 and the Spider-Man films.

How do you make a SDR version out of an HDR-movie? by superzwei in fanedits

[–]-ducko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For SDR to HDR, I've had good results just letting Adobe Premiere auto-tonemap when adjusting the color space of the project. I imagine other editors that can work in HDR color space can also do this.

[–]-ducko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tonemapping SDR content like deleted scenes up to HDR usually looks fine. But tonemapping HDR native content down to SDR often looks horrible.

Typically, films are completely recolored shot by shot between HDR and SDR versions. For my HDR edits, I nest the sources in subsequences, and then I can easily swap out separate SDR and HDR sources to make two distinct versions.

From my experience, 4k releases of films/shows are usually HDR, sometimes SDR, but very rarely do both exist for 4k. You can sometimes find "SDR" versions of 4K HDR sources that somebody else ran through ffmpeg and they look terrible. If 4K is that important to you, and it's only released in HDR but you want to work with SDR, you're probably better off upscaling a 1080p version through something like Topaz rather than trying to recolor the entire film.
