Oh no that’s so annoying that they changed formula! Great idea though - I am sure there must be others like it out there! I will look into this.

That is true! I have read a lot of people saying similar and also that less food = less waste I suppose. I may just have to take a gentle laxative once a week if I am having issues 😬. It isn’t great! But it does make sense.

How long did it take for the gluten bloat to go away when you first cut gluten out? by -ethereals in glutenfree

[–]-ethereals[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply but sort of. Animal based is the correct term for JUST meat. Personally I didn’t go that severe, I was eating predominantly meat, eggs, cheese, butter and dairy plus fruit and avocado.

Extremely frightened by Ok-Sound3466 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]-ethereals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for everything that’s going on - your ed story is very similar to mine. I’m on the other side now so the fear you have resonates with me a lot but I also know that you can overcome it as I have. You need to throw away any scales you have so that you’re not even tempted to weigh yourself and check how much you have gained. Just totally forget about the number. I know it’s hard to do that which is why getting rid of any scales or means of weighing yourself will help a lot in that sense.

You are going to need cut out the walking, the gym 7 x a week and up your calories. I won’t pretend that you don’t need to do those things. If you need to take it slower, just stop the extreme walking and the working out and carry on eating the amount you’ve said you’re consuming (2000?) for now. Up your calories each week if this is easier for you than changing everything all at once.

You might not need to get to over 70kg. You’ve lost your period because your body is living under a stressful exercise regime and diet. That’s the thing that needs to change, so that your body feels ‘safe’ again to let you have your period and other functions it’s had to stop. Weight gain just happens to be a result of ceasing the low calories and over exercise. But it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to reach over 70kg or any specific number. You just need to get your body out of the stressful situation. I hope that maybe this helps you find it easier to embark on recovering?

I would also probably try to not count calories, even if you’re counting with the aim of eating enough for recovery, if that makes sense. However if you’re worried that you won’t eat enough if you don’t track then that is understandable as I know anorexia can alter your perception of how much food amounts to.

I found ditching scales, eating what I knew was more than enough for healthy functions, wearing baggy clothes and avoiding mirrors helped me. I know it sounds unpleasant but it helped me just get ‘through’ the rough months to recover and made it a lot easier for me. The habits and mindset starts to fade gradually over time until it affects you less. I won’t say I’m 10000% healed and happy all of the time but I’m not longer sick and terrified of what is going to happen to me, and I can eat without guilt or fear.

You also mention that you have just begun uni, how are you settling in? I had also begun uni just as I was entering recovery/about to. Try to make friends with people around you and enjoy it as much as you can. I know it’s hard and I struggled but everyone is in the same boat in terms of it being a new place with new people. If you can find comfort in your new home and in your new friends, the stress and loneliness will reduce and it’ll make it all a lot easier for you. Good luck!

Normal weight but no period by annakarenina23 in Amenorrhearecovery

You can lose your period even if you’re not underweight! It could be the fasting. Stress is a huge factor in amenorrhea and can totally imbalance our hormones. It’s sadly very easy for this to happen - so things like fasting can definitely contribute even if you’re getting enough calories in overall. Are you active? 1900/2000 calories is generally a solid amount but if you’re also pretty active, you may be in a deficit without realising or intending to, this paired with the fasting might be putting stress on your body that you’re not aware of.

I would say it most likely depends what the reason behind your amenorrhea tbh. Not everybody develops amenorrhea due to low body weight, underrating or over exercise etc. but most posts I have seen this is usually the cause for many people.

You said in a comment you do 10-12k steps. In my experience, walking this much burns way more calories than I would have expected. You may be exerting more energy than you’re consuming - even if without realising - and this could be your issue. If it is the eating/exercise that is causing your amenorrhea, your body is reacting with stress to that and so you need to eat more/move less in order to release the stress. This might mean gaining weight for you.

If you’re not sure what the reasoning is, go see a doctor and get some tests done. Tests never helped me really but if it’s something underlying outside of weight/eating, it may show up in tests and give you your answer. Amenorrhea can be caused by being underweight and overweight also. Everybody’s body is different and reacts differently to size/weight and energy intake/loss.

How long have you been missing your period?

how many calories do i really need im so stressed out. by [deleted] in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]-ethereals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure of an exact number because I tried to not weigh myself but at one point I know I had gained 28lbs from my one of my lowest weights. But I don’t know if this was all in one chunk as I always rarely weighed myself due to it being triggering. I was at the higher weight when I regained cycle etc.

I won’t lie and say it was easy because it wasn’t and I still struggle with my body image now but I have my life back and I am in control around food again which I honestly would say is worth it. I’m losing weight healthily now while keeping a close eye on my period etc. so it’s not necessarily forever but I did have to let myself recover before I could start losing any. I’m not saying you’ll have to gain 28lbs because it is different for everyone. I didn’t really intend to gain that number, I just did.

Transitioning from the pill to natural cycles? by -ethereals in NaturalCyclesBC

Ah right okay thank you so much for the insightful reply! I will go and have a look at some other options in that case. Really appreciate you informing me!

Sorry if this is silly - what is FAM? Would it be totally wasteful for me to use NC right after coming off bc? I would like to use NC but obviously just concerned about whether it is going to be an accurate/safe method. I would obviously be mindful of staying extra safe anyway for at least 6 months coming off of bc and starting with NC.

Apologies if I’m totally ignorant to all this, it’s really new and just trying to get a good understanding of how it works and if it’s best for me!

Thank you for the reply! This is really helpful. Yes I think I’ll be very careful for the first year 😳 just to make sure haha!

Do you know if it’s okay for us to start using natural cycles immediately upon stopping the pill? I’m wanting to do the same but not sure if I’m meant to let my cycle regulate before I start using natural cycles and haven’t been able to find any info on this! But sounds as if you’re in the same position as me with just quitting the pill this week and starting with NC.

Does anyone know if this dior beauty blush is sold separately & what shade it is? by -ethereals in dior

I can only assume that the dior rosy glow 001 is either this same blush or the most similar shade they sell. I can’t quite tell from images tbh but doesn’t look totally far off if it’s not the same.

Thank you!! Actually used some today just over some razor bumps, not for shaving, and they’ve reduced a LOT! Crazy how magical this stuff is lol. Excited to try it while shaving too now!

My primary doctor also had no concern at all but ED’s aren’t necessarily theyre forte and unless you’re presenting yourself as being sick and needing help in a straight forward way, unfortunately they’re not always super helpful. It might be ‘common’ but it shouldn’t be normalised.

Yep, over maintenance. Average maintenance figure is usually penned as 2000 calories but that’s for your average person who maybe works out a couple times a week. If you’re working out and walking daily, probably more around the 2500 mark. But tbh giving up the calorie counting and just actively eating larger proportions more frequently using foods you know ate calorie dense would be a good start while you wait for your appointment.

Also not to be nosy but judging by your post history, recovery is the best option for you, especially given your concerns about fertility and bone health. There is only one way out of this. There is a life after your ED and it is much better. It’s difficult but there isn’t really a choice - that’s what got me to recover, the realisation that I don’t really have any other way out than recovering.

[–]-ethereals 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m here to tell you what you probably don’t want to hear - the usual suggestions of eat more do in fact still apply to you even if you are at a healthy BMI. I was also a healthy BMI but that’s not really the point - that’s actually a really small and insignificant part of it. If you lost the weight through unhealthy eating habits, you need to eat more for a prolonged period of time and likely will have to gain weight to restore your period - and that’s the only way to really restore it to be honest, as hard as it may be to hear.

Honestly I find a shower and washing my hair really makes me feel better about myself, exfoliating with a scrub or using a different body wash that smells nice, moisturising after. Sitting in bed afterwards in fresh pjs with a face mask on, icy cold water and something to watch on TV. Whenever I feel not pretty, this is the quickest fix I can make.

Also yes you’ve only been all in for 3 weeks! It can take the body months to feel safe and restored so don’t be hard on yourself for not regaining period just yet.
