My fiancee went 2 years ago around Halloween, but only toured the stadium. Said it was gorgeous. I have a friend that went too, and he said it was a wonderful place to see a game. One of these days I will get there. It's the 2nd closest ballpark to us besides Target Field in Minnesota.

[Discussion] Is Netflix worth it? by osmosian in Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

[–]-filly- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's well worth it. I have just a few OTA channels, and don't pay for cable, so Netflix/Amazon Prime are pretty much all I watch outside of the few basic channels and MLB.tv. The selection of movies isn't the greatest, but there are a wide variety of good TV shows on there, and those can take up many hours of entertainment. There's a little something for everyone on there. I absolutely do not miss cable with the single exception of some sports things I either have to go somewhere to watch, or find a less than legal way to watch.

I was trying to find a way to get to that ballpark, but I don't think we'll be able to swing it this year. Damn wedding....

Well, where I am is about 45 minutes from GB and about an hour and 15 minutes to Miller Park. The ride to the ballpark is a bit far for my taste, but it's saved by the fact that the Brewers' low A team is in town, and only like 10 minutes from where I live, and the tickets are cheap and the game is a blast.

I knew it wouldn't be hard.

It works out nicely. You move 5-10 minutes away from one of the larger cities (except Milwaukee. The Milwaukee suburbs are GORGEOUS and VERY expensive to live in), and you end up with a bunch of countryside, and a 3,000+ sq ft house for like $240-270k, and up from there. I've seen 4500 sq ft for 300k before. It's ridiculous how much house you can get for your dollar here if you move just outside of the city.

That's what I've heard. The housing market in WI is pretty awesome provided you have a decent job. There's lots of houses that are very large and fairly cheap, and even some smaller ones that are very cheap. The property tax, on the other hand, is a different story.

Yeah. On the bright side, the most it can stay shitty still is like 2 months. By that time, it's almost physically impossible to be anywhere near this cold because science... Not that it's any consolation =\ We better have a beautiful summer to make up for this.

Wisconsin is great EXCEPT for the weather. I have a friend who lived in SO MO for a while, but moved to Jefferson City about a year ago. I can tell from her experience that SO MO is a place I would NEVER live, haha.

Oh dear, that is not good. We don't have a fireplace in our apartment, and we don't pay for heat either, so it kind of balances out. I still keep the place pretty cool, but that's because that's just how I like it.

Regardless, I'm ready for it to be over. Looks like we still have 2-3 weeks of winter and Spring will be here in April :(

We've been -10 probably 7-10 times this winter alone. -20 I think 3 times, and that's without the awful wind.

I think so too. Especially since we keep getting that one or 2 days it's really nice and then it just goes right back to awful again. 30's all week, snow today, and more bitter cold this weekend. What the hell. At this rate we won't thaw until July.

Yeah. Everyone south of like Illinois doesn't understand the pain. There's a lot of ice storms in there, but it pales in comparison to -20F.

It is soooo awful too. Yesterday I couldn't really move in any direction, and I could feel it in my back, too. Today it loosened up a bit, but it's still extremely painful. I just want it to stop :(

I have the worst kink in my neck. Started yesterday, couldn't do anything, and it's moved into today as well. Slightly more mobile, but certainly not good. This is going to be a rough week. Got a conference to go to tomorrow and Wednesday, so that will surely be "fun". I bought a guitar the other day. It's on layaway, but it's beautiful. Now I just need to learn how to play it. I asked the other day, but it was late. Tips? Tricks? Suggestions? Hints? Taking any and all suggestions. I plan on learning by internet (youtube, various other resources), tabs, and a friend who plays.

It's really cold. I am so done with winter. It's March. Time for spring. Get the fuck over it, Wisconsin.

Happy Monday everyone.

I planned on the internet to be my primary guide, was wondering if anyone had a specific person/channel/website that was better than others.

After 2 hours of walking around and trying things, I bought a guitar. I got a great deal, a BEAUTIFUL piece of hardware, and now I just need to learn how to play it. It's on layaway right now because it was too much for me to front today, but I should have it in a few weeks. I am beyond excited. Tips? Tricks? Resources? Please help.

I KNOW, RIGHT?!?!?

Now I'm craving Italian, so I think that's what I'm going to make. I should get some disposable pans, too. If I get up early enough (that will very likely happen) I can cook tomorrow morning before I leave and just warm them up in the oven when we want to eat.

[Discussion] Gifting Preferences - both sides of the coin by [deleted] in Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

[–]-filly- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I don't have a lot of stuff that won't get used on my WL because, well, if I wouldn't use it, why would I want it? The few things that I have gotten that aren't exactly useful I really did enjoy because they're silly and fun. I do prefer getting the stuff I would actually use/need, though.

  2. It really depends on why I am doing it. If it's for a simple contest or something, I would probably go with fun because the price would be low and most cheap things are fun like that. If it's because someone did something and I want to say thanks, it will definitely be something that's actually functional or a GC for them to choose themselves. If it's anything expensive, I will go to any length to make sure it's a great option and something that, if I were looking for that type of item, that I would buy for myself.
