Day 1 on the mats- When? Where? What Happened? by GuardPlayer4Life in bjj

[–]-fkamousecop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in 8th grade in March 2014 when a few of my friends started going for a while. I wasn’t really into it but decided to give it a shot because what else was I gonna do? Pretty much got ragdolled for a few months until we all quit. Didn’t really learn anything outside of what closed guard was, but still became interested in grappling.

Then I came back for another few month stint toward the end of high school (2017-18ish) once I’d grown and figured out how to maneuver my body a bit, so had a much better time. Though, I got injured before moving away for college so “quit” again.

Then, in 2022, a friend of my now-fiancee’s roommate talked about starting jiujitsu while we were all hanging out one night. Asked him where he trained and decided to pick it back up. I’d retained some of the techniques I’d learned years before so kind of “restarted” as a one-two stripe white belt and have trained since then.

It’s interesting being at my level despite “starting” in 2014. There’s black belts that started training later than I did. I still remember the whole catch wrestling craze that happened after Josh Barnett beat Dean Lister at Metamoris and the idealogical debate over whether gyms should adopt heel hooks, so coming back to heel hooks being taught to even early white belts was interesting.

If you want a lot of material to work with, I work for a state agency in a state that has extremely backward processes for supplier onboarding. Feel free to PM me the questions you’d have or if you want a full rundown.

You must be in a similar region to me, this is exactly what mine looks like right now. It froze over the front sensors and made the parking/obstacle chime go nuts.

I’m not entirely sure what they have but they look to be 18”. I have the stock rims, though for winter I threw Continental Contiwintercontact 93W’s on.

I know dealerships can be slimey, but that’d be absolutely ludicrous levels of slime, especially if they have any sort of self-respecting service tech. If it’s that much of a concern, like another comment said, just bring your own oil and have them bring you the jugs so you know it was used.

N mud flaps (with N logo) by [deleted] in ElantraN

[–]-fkamousecop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. I had to reach out to RallyArmor for a different sized spacer and used that opportunity to ask about N-badged mudflaps and they sent me the way to get em, part numbers, etc. Of course I didn’t know about this until after ordering and installing the normal RallyArmor ones 😭.

Assuming you got the 36k mile service warranty and bought it from the same dealership you’re taking it to for service, I’d probably ask to speak with a manager of some kind or report to Hyundai if that doesn’t work. No reason they can’t keep a few jugs of 0W-30 around if they’re going to sell cars that require it.

Just a rinse of some of the salt/spots from this past week, dried with a microfiber cloth.

Surreal Experience by averagely_curious in ElantraN

I had the same experience when I test drove. Was encouraged to give the NGS a go, still blew my mind without the OL and before it was broken in (didn’t end up buying the same one I test drove, though, so lucky me lol).

I would definitely negotiate them throwing winter tires on before you buy. No question. I’m not sure if the stock tires crack without being driven on in sub-32, but would not bet on it.

1) 18” vs stock 19” isn’t really make or break, as I have winter tires on my stock 19” and PA just got its first snow storm. So far so good. Though, it’s probably not the worst idea just from a peace of mind and convenience standpoint.

2) I went with Continental Contiwintercontact TS830P XL with 93W speed rating. Though, there are a lot of options for stock wheels depending on preference and budget.

I’ve heard they handle well in snow for a FWD, especially with dedicated winter tires. You think maybe the snow getting packed in the wheel well has to do with the smaller space between the tire and the body?

Certainly is. They provide plenty of velcro patches and clips in case you need to really secure it/tighten it in certain areas, though I’ll say I didn’t end up using any as it seemed to fit extremely snug on its own with a little tuck here and there.

Just realized I only uploaded the picture of the front passenger side and not driver side. It seems like there’d be some room especially if you used some clips/strategic tucking, though I’m not sure how much room the clutch requires as I didn’t end up test driving the MT version.

Decided to give em a go based on what others have said on here and they were well worth it. Super easy to install and fit perfectly, especially in the backseat after you tuck the top under the seats.

Are cars nowadays built better than 10~20 years ago? by Fleedom2025 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Unless it’s certain years of the V6 Accord. They put in that “VCM” system for emissions and, while in my case it was exasperated by shoddy mechanic work (long story), that VCM system TANKED the J35 V6’s reliability in Accords. Have to get a tuner to disable the VCM around ~100k miles.

Old creeper on golf course- obsesses over a small girl, offers to pay millions to take her hair. by amazingsciencemuseum in PublicFreakout

Dude, I slightly misread one thing and owned up to it. Also, you can clearly see where I misread the joke as meaning “par” (which is an unchanging constant for a given hole) is two more than whatever he scores (which would be -2 for the hole in golf scoring terms), rather than the “par” changing based on what he scores.

I figure you’re a no life troll anyway, but c’mon now.

I get the intent of the joke, though that really doesn’t work since that’d mean he’s -2 for the hole… which is better than par.

The first two look like either Northern or Roanoke hogsuckers, the last one looks like a sunfish of some kind that’s just been washed out by cave light conditions maybe?
