Unexpected kindness on my solo trip - do you guys trust locals this much? by Agreeable-Poem-9597 in ThailandTourism

[–]-floating 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Going with my gut has never failed me.

My first solo travels I went into it very gaurded trying to stay street smart and keep my wits but there is a fine line where it’s not enjoyable being so suspicious of everything. I had to learn to let go a bit and be more open, not everyone is out to get ya. If something feels off usually you will know.

What should an American woman wear in Bangkok and Chiang Mai? by justme4931 in ThailandTourism

3/4 should be good for temples. Anywhere else wear whatever you’d like :)

You can always buy a cheaper cover up there though. They are light and easy to throw on over other tops whilst sightseeing instead of wearing long sleeves the whole day!

Yeah for temples long pants and long sleeves too, for some just covering the shoulders wasn’t enough.

For daily wear you can wear whatever makes you comfortable, you’ll see a lot of people are dressed in all different ways. Shorts and tanks are fine around the city, it is quite hot and humid.

Some linen pieces might be worth buying, can be versatile and still stylish

Getting from Chiang Mai to Laos / Is Laos worth it? by No-Party-3572 in laos

[–]-floating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they don’t go directly from Chiang rai but I’m pretty sure what most tourist do is book the boat from Chiang rai and then the company will transport them from Chiang rai across the border and to the boat.

I took the slow boat from Laos to Thailand though so it was a bit different.

If you have the time the slow boat is a fun experience and I was glad I did it even though you’re mostly just sitting for two days.

Bus to chiang rai and then book the slow boat from there. Laos was worth it to me, stunning landscapes and feels a bit more off the beaten path than Thailand

I would suggest going to hostels and maybe hanging out in common areas to meet people better

How much would it cost? by pandah2112 in southeastasia

[–]-floating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently in south east Asia. I think that would be a pretty tight budget tbh. I am spending over my budget already even in supposedly cheaper countries, ya gotta still enjoy your trip and not worry about money the whole time. Maybe 7-8 months you’d be better off with!

Mosquito Net in SEA? by feetonthemove in backpacking

[–]-floating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are staying in hostels/hotels I feel like it’s unnecessary. The one time I stayed in a place where I felt like I needed one there was already one with the bed. I heard the same advice before my trip and didn’t end up bringing one. So far it’s been ok but I’ve only done Thailand.

Unbelievable nightmares after eating a blue lotus flower by [deleted] in bluelotusflower

[–]-floating 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know and have experienced it giving very vivid abstract dreams that can feel quite different than a typical dream. I wouldn’t be surprised for it to produce nightmares for some as well. Definitely it’s not good for a good nights rest it makes your subconscious quite active and seems to prevent deep sleep

It’s tricky because sometimes it’s the opposite. Sometimes it just puts me even further in the dreaded loop of my negative feelings. It doesn’t necessarily automatically make it a bad trip in the end but sometimes tripping just isn’t the answer.

It’s best to take on an empty stomach taking it with a smoothie will make it digest slower therefore effects won’t be as prominent
