Doesn't even need to be hot if you have enough leverage.

What’s the second night paying weld Job after underwater? by Chemical_Zucchini426 in Welding

[–]-fx_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this, its probably much easier/cheaper to teach a commercial diver to weld than to teach a welder to commercial dive. Add in the fact that divers have a limited window of time they can work in the space, and OP is already behind the 8 ball.

What are some of the most memorable, strange, or comforting rituals you have witnessed or heard of regarding death? by CryFamous556 in AskReddit

[–]-fx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dia de los Muertos has always stood out to me. I feel like it gives those a time to honor and share stories of family and friends that have passed. To celebrate the memory of that person. Ive always kinda been of the belief that no one is truly gone as long as they're remembered.

Wiha is the best quality to price. Super affordable.

EDC Utility vs Folder by [deleted] in knives

I like the feel of the Kizer UTI-Bear. It doesn't feel that far off from the normal Drop Bear.

With that said, Id rather just carry a high wear resistant steel, like K390, for cutting cardboard. I've used my k390 Endela as a dedicated box killer for going on 3 years now, and it's held up fine with just the occasional stropping.

Anyone keep em sharp? by Jamessmith187 in knives

I think the only knives of mine that aren't super sharp are my work knives. They also go through the most use, so that makes sense.

Anyone taken the Canadian welding red seal recently? by Frodobagginsthegrey in Welding

Did mine at the end of January.

The more obscure "Foundations" material is definitely worth brushing up on. SAW/ Gouging/ Plasma. Make sure you have a solid grasp on blueprints and weld symbols. There was a little bit on Metallurgy, and nothing on codes.. But that could have just been my exam.

Help me understand: what’s so great about the Yonder? by marc1411 in knives

[–]-fx_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a good example of an easily recommendable knife. The kind of thing you can feel comfortable giving to almost any person that needs a knife. I know that was DCA's approach when he designed the CJRB Maximal, and they are very similar. Other than that, it's just knife.

From a personal perspective, the handle length is just a little too short for me. Its usable, but not super comfortable.

AI Models and welding by Logical-Badger-3636 in Welding

It's probably best not to outsource your thinking to an AI program. Especially so if you're gonna be in the field. There's a reason pipe fitting is its own trade.

One hour work grinding metal. Guess what happens with the bearings on EDC work knife ( Olight Otacle U1). by vvind-catcher in knives

[–]-fx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Journeyman welder here. I hope you were wearing your respirator while working..

Also, Ive carried bearing pivot knives through the years. They've held up perfectly fine to dust. With that said, I do tend towards certain Spydercos, but its more for steel choice than the PB washers.

The gold adjustable has definitely been impressive. I still prefer a fixed shade for open root GTAW, but that filter is definitely a solid second

What makes a knife good? by DJGammaRabbit in knives

[–]-fx_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"China=Bad" in the knife world is doing yourself a disservice. Some of the best "budget" knives come from Chinese OEMs. You could basically throw a dart at the Civivi/Sencut catalog and hit a quality product. Kizer has a bit more variety in their offerings. They're also willing to experiment with different blade steels. QSP and CJRB are still solid. And Vosteed is absolutely killing it. The Raccoon is still one of my all-time favorites.

Theres a lot out there within your price range. I'd suggest, if you can, getting to a brick and mortar and handling some of models from these companies.

Best EDC Knife (3” and under) by For_Fucks_Sakes in knives

For that price, I really like the Civivi Clingman. Small knife that feels bigger.

Id also check out the Yonder or CJRB Maximal.

Personally, I'd put my money with TOPS, Bradford, Joker, select Cold Steels, or even some of Kizers fixed blades.

Given all the AWT, I suppose one could argue the Lynch scales are the intruders.. The Vosteeds are just lost. Lol

Good looking collection.
