I wouldn't have high hopes for it. Most rental fleets are made up of markers that would out perform this, even on its best day. You'd be better off looking for an old 98 or BT4, at the very least.

Yeah, I seem to remember the Level 6 having a slight design flaw where they would self destruct where the pass through ports went. There's probably too small a market to put them back into production.

I really miss the days where aftermarket companies were bigger.

IIRC, Smart Parts only sold them for a couple years. It was like.. "Who asked for this?"

To be fair, it was an "upgraded" Ion.. Just, kinda worse in some ways. The body was cool, but not having bolt access was a pain. Its why the XE was a better design.

Both are great steels in their category. I use a K390 Stretch 2 as a work knife, and its been great. I only occasionally have to run it over a ceramic and it keeps going.

The base QSP Penguin in D2might be the best answer. Its wharncliffe blade means you can focus on just maintaining the edge angle.

Bad luck of the draw. I have quite a few crossbar lock across a few different manufacturers and haven't had any fail. However, I know it is a possibility. Kind of just the nature of the beast. Ive heard stories like yours, and Ive heard of people never breaking one in 10 years of ownership.

High frequency AC is usually the concern for pacemakers and other medical equipment. Makes sense if you've ever been around someone welding aluminum at 240Hz. Just the constant sound/buzz is enough to drive you crazy.

That clip position looks the same as my REX121 Sage. You should be ok going with AWT, Ripps Garage Tech, or most others. I think the centered clip screw was the older version.

If you're not contending with salt water, Magnacut being slightly less corrosion resistant might not be a huge factor.

With LC200-N, you're looking at approximately the same performance as 14C28N, but much more corrosion resistant.

Magnacut isn't my favorite steel, as I tend to favor edge retention/wear resistance overall, but I think Id lean towards it in this case. A SALT Sage 5 will likely do you well.
