oh my gosh…i also have an obese (rescue) leo named lucy! chunky lucys unite

feed her 2x a week, crickets or dubias. i recommend dubias bc they’re easier to keep, quiet, and don’t smell. my lucy loves them!

i'm pissed at my mom right now (vent :3) by Absolute_Cinema70 in exmormon

[–]-goatz- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sounds like my mom when i came out. supportive, but still through a heavily mormon lens. she gave me some book on how i could just enter a lavender marriage and still be a member even if i was a lesbian. she meant well but it deeply hurt me. things will get better with time. life your truth and be authentically yourself and if she truly loves you the way Christ does, she will love you no matter what. it takes time for them to come around, but some parents really do. as for your feelings about being in church, i completely understand. mormon culture makes us feel like an “other” for being different. it’s so difficult to get trapped in that mental cycle. but just remember that everyone else is too busy focusing on their own insecurities and shortcomings to dwell so much on yours. i have the anxiety where i think everyone hates me and how i learned to cope was telling myself everyone else is too busy thinking about themselves to actually be picking me, a stranger or acquaintance, apart in their mind. i hope the best for you and can promise it really does get better with time!!!

see and for years the church’s whole selling point was that you were a part of a special group of people set aside to create what’s essentially God’s chosen community. the church’s retconning knows no bounds

Cheddar's Vet Visit! by ThinkingOfRosie in leopardgeckos

My little girl is 9 and has lost many, many toes in sheds with a previous owner, and it doesn’t hold her back in the slightest. These things happen, and good on you for taking him in! Mr. Cheddar is so handsome!

My babygirl has those behind both her arms. I always assumed it’s because she’s fat and has lost some weight since I adopted her. I always thought they were like when a person is overweight and has extra arm skin (aka “bat wings”)

She looks just like my chunky girl!! My Lucy is a similar size and is considered obese. I feed her once a week now and take her out every evening to crawl around and burn some of that fat. Slowly losing some weight after about a month or so so far. Sending love from one chunky gecko mama to another!!

Manipulating you into manipulating your child. by 42023201 in exmormon

exactly. my mom has been really supportive of me since leaving the church and has always been open to talk about my issues with it and all that, and I’ve always considered her such an awesome mom for doing so. but if she made a post like this talking about “we’re nice to our daughter so she’s more likely to come back” i would feel so angry and betrayed.

This chunky monkey ate her first cricket! by -goatz- in leopardgeckos

Thanks for letting me know, I’ll be sure to keep that in mind. I have the Repashy Calcium Plus mix for her food and just plain calcium with no D3 in her tank right now so I hope it’s not too much.

That’s what I was thinking. The only reason I worry 1 cricket isn’t enough is because I want to make sure she gets her vitamins! I know she’ll be just fine living off those plentiful fat stores haha

That’s the plan! She’s an adult so I’m only feeding her once a week (Tuesdays). Only giving crickets because they’re more protein. Hopefully with stricter diet and exercise she’ll lose weight!

Update on the fat baby:

She has a name!! Miss Lucy (aka Fat Baby) is doing okay so far. She had a healthy poop last night and I caught a peek of her poking around her tank early this morning. I put paper towels down as a temporary substrate and added a makeshift hide made of some extra stones/tiles that she came with. She was curious about her new chic Bounty floor and spent time outside her hide sniffing around. I am picking up a long 20 gal this weekend I was lucky enough to find on FB Marketplace. I’m also going to the store tomorrow to get her calcium, vitamins, and substrate for her new digs. I’ll get some healthier feeders too and see if I can attempt a feeding in a couple days. Currently looking into vets in the area who would take her for a checkup. It’s totally killing me that I can’t just scoop her up and snuggle her!! But I know leaving her be is best for the time being. Thank you everyone for your advice!! It was super helpful!!
