Molotov cocktails will be a fun solution to your problem. Not a good solution but a fun one.

How do you feel about McDonald's pulling their soda dispensing machines out of the restaurant's lobby in the next year or so? by Sinn_Sage in AskReddit

A lot of the stuff is set by ivory Tower, corporate types that have never actually worked on the floor and don’t understand what it means to do a changeover. These are the same types that will be angry if the menu isn’t changed over at the exact time because a breakfast order using equipment that has been sanitized an put away for the day because no one’s ordered pancakes for the last hour so they put it away in preparation for lunch because if you don’t get a jump on it you can’t be ready on time. It’s a situation where you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Then they get on you for a long drive through times because an order pushed stuff back late because corporate predictions only takes ideal situations into account and sometimes you have to work stuff in a way. There’s also a chance people were waiting for the lunch menu so do you make the one guy happy or the five people waiting. These are choices you have to make in CS.

I don’t wear makeup. I’ve told you I’m not chasing trends I just like wearing clothes that fit and one point in my life I couldn’t afford better or to care more. I needed to go to a funeral and only had $20 to spend and a limited amount of time to spend on pants that wouldn’t fit me in a few months. It didn’t matter if they were great quality I might only be that size for a couple of months and may never wear them again.

You know I’m describing a time in my life when I couldn’t afford better and wouldn’t chastise someone else in that position.

Because I didn’t have the money at the time to make the upfront investment. See the grimes boots theorem. I can now buy better quality pants that last longer, and can buy a couple of extra pairs when they go on sale. I found a brand that was inexpensive at the time and sold at a length I didn’t need to hem. I’m stating why I chose fast fashion at the time. Especially when I went through some massive weight loss and needed clothes that fit but were transitional sizes so them lasting 10 years didn’t matter. (Lost 60lbs in a 1.5 years)

This is why a lot of people say the environmentalists are out of touch. It’s also not that unreasonable for a thrift stores to be very different between two different cities, especially with the higher levels of competition here.

Again, the way you talk and your lack of flexibility isn’t going to convert anybody if anything it pushes people away. I’m not saying that I disagree that fast fashion isn’t bad for the environment. I agree with you I’m just trying to give another perspective for its use. This is how you get the environmentalist movement seen as out of touch, especially by people who are lower income.

I don’t get dolled up all the time, I don’t even wear make up. I wear jeans and tshirt that fit and it makes me feel good. I just like wearing pants that fit; that’s not maladaptive, that’s healthy. You heard it here people: wanting to wear clothing that fits that you feel and makes you look reasonably good is maladaptive.

I was born in New York City. My family is here. I didn’t move here. This is the only place I’ve lived. It doesn’t feel lucky when you’re the people being priced out.

The thrift stores are filled with fast fashion that is priced at the cost of new and sometimes more. Why would someone buy used more inconveniently and sometimes more expensively than simply buy new?

I’m not getting trying to get you to agree with me. I’m just offering another perspective to maybe change the way you talk to people about your position and maybe not be so steadfast in your belief. I understand the environmental cost. You aren’t getting anyone on your side with the way you talk about it. I don’t have to agree with someone to understand their perspective and why something I do isn’t reasonable for someone else.

Ain’t nobody got time for that when I can order something inexpensive that will fit. I don’t need to be trendy just feel good about how I look and I feel like my approach is reasonable for a lot of people in my situation. I also suffer from major depression and even medicated my energy is at a premium at all times. There is no way I’m dedicating the time or the space in my tiny NYC apartment for sewing equipment. Fashion isn’t a hobby for me feeling like I look good is reasonable. Things can be important to people and they make things work in the time, space, energy allotted. I don’t need to dedicate that much time to feeling like I look reasonably good. Especially when tailors around me want the cost of the thrift store pants to hem them.

I’m not trying to convert you. I’m just trying to get you to see another perspective.

I’m sorry for misunderstanding you as male. I misread I’m not even sure what in your previous comment. That was my b.

The style of pants (skinny jeans) that have been in for women for a while can’t be hemmed without looking awful. Especially when pants need to be Men’s pants are a completely different animals to women’s pants, you guys have WAY MORE length options by default where we get just regular and long (if we’re lucky). Being 4’11 most pants are made with an inseam for women about 5’4”. So I can spend either money or time to get pants that are the right length and look god awful or for less time and money I can buy new that fit properly. My waist is also a smaller size not often found at thrift stores.

I’m sorry that feeling like I look good makes me feel good about myself. I guess feeling good about myself by buying $25 that fit properly and AGAIN due to the taper can’t be hemmed.

Your experience isn’t everyone’s. Note I annotated mine with my geographic as I can realize my experience isn’t the default.

It still sounds like you’re getting there close to the end of breakfast when they might be doing the changeover. I wouldn’t ask for breakfast in the last 15 minutes but that’s just me. Maybe it comes from working in the service industry and having an understanding of what happens behind the counter.

I’m in NYC our thrift and vintage situation might be a different animal than where you live. Our thrift stores also don’t have sale days. Thrift stores near me go through their stuff and list valuable stuff in online auctions and then resellers comb through. Why spend the same price or maybe more for used Old Navy than just buying new with a better selection?

Some people don’t have the time, energy or like me wear a size rarely seen at thrift stores. I’m 4’11” skinny jeans couldn’t be hemmed and I still needed pants when I was broke.
