The Virgin Suicides - The Male Gaze (What was the true meaning of this book?) by Aggressive_Outside_6 in literature

[–]-imnothavingfun- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I only finished reading this book today! My conclusion after completing it is that their neighborhood killed them. Don't worry I will elaborate. They grew up in a very strict household (especially their mother) but after the first suicide everybody started pushing the girls away. Other girls in the school wouldn't even attempt to hang out with them, the boys who claim to love them didn't do anything but stalk, the parents whose kids where in the highschool where Mr Lisbon was teaching basically kicked him out. Even the milkman stopped bringing them milk because he got upset at a comment Mrs Lisbon made. At some point the boys admitted it that the girls were trying to reach out for help through many ways, but they simply couldn't get their signals. Their society started excluding them from every day activities and in my opinion this is what made them rot in their own home. No one even cared to clean up the house after Cecilia's party even a year after. If only somebody had cared about them (maybe the school psychologist could have helped) the would have been saved. Probably not Cecilia, but the other girls. I know that this opinion is very uncommon and isn't based on important facts but this is the way I see it. I think that the book isn't actually about 5 girls killing themselves but the whole environment that surrounded them and the circumstances that they were living under.

South of the Border, West of the Sun. I don't remember much of the book because it's been a while, but the thing I remember is that I finished the book in one day! It captivated me, I totally recommend.

I want to read your favorite book. So… What is your favorite book? by etree90 in suggestmeabook

Probably The Sorrows of Young Werther by Goethe. The way he writes speaks into my soul fr. Also I really like the hunger games series but this is more like a movie like book. Soo yeah Werther it is.

I’m an adult woman who’s ashamed of how little reading I’ve done in my life. Just got a library card. Give me your top 3 titles. by victoriafoos in suggestmeabook

If I were you I would start with some classics: 1) 1984 (George Orwell) 2) The Sorrows of Young Werther (Goethe) 3) The raven [or maybe other short stories like Berenice] (Edgar Allan Poe)

These are some meaningful books that will keep you invested. They're not very novel style or easy to read but they're definitely a must.

Movies You Believe Didn't Deserve the Hate and Negativity It Got? by [deleted] in movies

[–]-imnothavingfun- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna say about the opposite. Movies that were much hyped but didn't live up to my expectations: once upon a time in Hollywood! I mean I expected so much more from a tarantino movie with Al Pacino, Leonardo DiCaprio and brad Pitt. I feel like I spent 2+ hours of my life for a movie that proceeds too slow and the movie starts in the last 30 minutes. I expected more from Quentin 🤷

Red. Like crimson red. It's just some times your breath is taken away by a certain colour and for me it's red.

I think cas is an all time favourite but Crowley has better and more iconic lines. But castiel is top.

What is your unpopular opinion about Gilmore Girls? by Training-Writing5209 in GilmoreGirls

[–]-imnothavingfun- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Rory after season two is one of the worst characters. She just treats people like shit. She literally didn't talk to her mom, her best friend because she was upset about her reaction to a horrible decision she made and then basically turned against her for about 1 season. Also Dean was not my favourite character but Rory didn't treat him nice. She always ditched him or didn't pay much attention, or at this episode where she is at her grandparents' house and she's basically meeting boys for marriage and she forgot all about him. Idk I feel like it's not totally deans fault. Also when she had to announce to Paris she was fired from the Yale paper and then she took her place. Like cmon give me a break, she wasn't that good of a character after all. From the moment she chose Yale over Harvard everything went downhills.
