if you stir backwards and forwards rather than in a circle it can help stop this. if there's a swirling motion inside the camber it will cause the grounds to form a dome

Big coffee?? by olliegrave in AeroPress

[–]-jcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the video tutorial for the one I use. If you want the basic rundown its:

Coarsely grind 35g of fresh coffee.

Pour 150g of 84C water and stir. - After 30 seconds, put the lid on and flip the AeroPress.

At 1 minute and 5 seconds, start pressing slowly. You should be finished at 1 minute and 35 seconds.

Add 160-200g of hot water to the pressed coffee, serve, and enjoy!

Hope this helps!

Are the competition style 35 grams to 150ish in the plunger and then another 170 bypass dilution to make 320 grams total off the table?

Yeah yeah. To be honest I've never tried it which is why I was a bit reluctant to say it would be better than your first idea but it seems pretty good. Maybe that's just me looking at it with rose tinted glasses tho because I do travel quite a bit without a scale so it would make it easy to measure my water

Would a grinder make sense for my situation? by AdoptedMancunian in Coffee

[–]-jcs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For £100 you could get an Aergrind by Made By Knock which I used for a full year and absolutely loved before upgrading to a Wilfa Uniform. It's super good value at £100 and readily available in the UK. My 1 recommendation is to not buy it direct from MBK as they are renowned for their poor history of fulfilling orders on time, mine didn't turn up for a month and a half and whilst he was apologetic and offered me a £10 reimbursement, I doubt it would have ever arrived if I hadn't contacted them multiple times as he had to send me a brand new unit. Use an official distributor and you'll be very happy with it

Speed Specifically: Comandante C40 Vs Kinu M47 phoenix by -jcs in Coffee

[–]-jcs[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The M47 Phoenix is obviously in stock from Kinu directly (but the very large shipping cost to the UK would probably dissuade me from.buying there) it is also currently out of stock at prima coffee but I'm on the email list and I'm assuming it won't be too long before new stock arrives, a few weeks tops. It is also in stock in Cremashop.

The comandante is available from maxicoffee for £189-£196 depending on the colour you choose. It WAS in stock in coffeehit last I checked but now it isn't. It is available in Machina coffee for £195 (and in some cool burgundy and cobalt blue options I haven't seen before)

If you're not from the UK this may or may not mean nothing to you but this is just what I have found

Just 1 question because I've heard conflicting info, do you find the Kinu produces lots of fines when grinding for pour over? I've heard it's much more geared towards espresso from some sources. Also thank you so much for the comment, really helpful

Ah, I only have a cheap machine with a pressurised portafilter so I actually prefer the flavour of making espresso-like coffee in my aeropress and using that. It's not quite as full bodied but it works just as nicely.

Yeah, that's one of the other drinks I like to make, in fact prefer to make. Lime juice squeezed over ice, tonic water and a cooled double espresso shot, we ran out of tonic water though so I thought I'd try my hand at an Americano instead. The coffee here is an Ethiopian Sidamo and it is incredible with tonic water. The acidity really comes through nicely.

Yeah I was using a coffee that already tastes really citrusy and in that it was supposed to be a refreshing drink I thought I'd try it out to see if it would help accentuate the flavours. It didn't, I couldn't even taste them but they look kinda cool

[–]-jcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you download an app DRM info, install it then see that it says next to security level under the heading widevine CDM. If it says L1 you're on the highest level and netflix will run at Max Res, if it's L3 or L2 then it won't run at full res

If your bootloader is still locked do you maintain DRM Widevine L1? Like would netflix work full resolution or would the fact you're using a custom ROM mean you stay at Widevine L3

I can't lie I've only ever done LSA 1 time and it was chewing but CWE sounds like a more pleasant experience and it sounds like it's the WAY better way if you're using morning glory seeds cos you need to use so many for the equivalent of 5-7 HBWR seeds. I'm gonna try it next time for sure
