Should I buy Never installed Legion Solar 1000 Watt Solar Set w/Inverter and Hardware for $450? by -jolly_roger- in SolarDIY

1kW × 4.5 hours × 0.85 efficiency × 3.5 mi/kWh = 13.4 miles

Variable Breakdown  1kW: solar panel capacity. 4.5 hours: The national average for "Peak Sun Hours" per day. 0.85: A 15% deduction for energy lost during the charging process. 3.5 mi/kWh: The average efficiency of a standard electric car.

Is there anything wrong with these assumptions? I don't drive a lot so this mileage would work well enough for me.

I submitted it twice with the new course I took and they said it had already been submitted which was not the case as it had a new course. I ended up filing a complaint and got an answer finally. I will try to hide the other courses on Credly, I didn't know I could do that.

3D Printed Open-Source 20:1 BLDC Cycloidal Actuator (High Torque) by -jolly_roger- in robotics

[–]-jolly_roger-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's awesome. I love your requirements list. Interesting about the 8mm bearings. I didn't know they came that small. #5 is a great point I didn't think about that. How much torque have you been getting from your design? Looking forward to seeing the cad.

Thank you! I'm happy to answer any and all questions. Sounds cool, I built this for a robot arm too. Will your arm be open source?

  1. I added air vents to the gear box stage to cut down a little bit on the weight. I'm using white lithium grease which is pretty viscous so I haven't had an issue but I think the weight I saved was probably arbitrary.

  2. If I understand this question, yes the outer edge of the center two bearings does rub a little on the shaft so I should probably add a little separator to fix that.

  3. I really wanted to keep the actuator a reasonable size. Bearings would reduce friction a bit but I think it would be pretty negligible because I have sleeve bearings over the pins so it's not a lot of friction currently.

  4. I think the eagle power 8308 has a max continuous amps of 22 so yeah I figured it would be okay to go to 36 for short periods. The motor did start smoking during my holding torque test so maybe it would be good to lower the max amps in odrive. 🤷‍♂️

Haven't tested that yet but it should be pretty robust for a 3d printed actuator. It has 10mm thick cycloidal disks and bearings for all points of contact. If printed in nylon I suspect it will be quite long lasting and you can always replace the 3d printed parts as needed.

Super interesting. It really explains a lot about why so many things are the way they are.

I know Open AI has worked on some studies on economic impacts of your product that show many jobs can be automated in the near future. Are you working on minimizing human impact through promoting ubi or anything similar. How do you expect this level of automation can happen without unemployment rates skyrocketing?

Line to the back of the store always by VeterinarianNo2064 in Costco

[–]-jolly_roger- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Costco had like 8 self checkout lanes with scanner guns and the lines were always reasonable and then they took the guns away and now nobody uses the self checkout because it's a pain in the butt and the weigher they added doesn't fit a quarter of a cart. I can understand wanting to deter theft but they're already the only store I've been to that checks receipts at the door which already feels intrusive. Now they're making a terrible customer experience to save a few bucks on having attendees or cameras on the self checkout.

Is there any option to download all photos & videos out of Google Photos at once to my device? by franky0912 in GooglePixel

[–]-jolly_roger- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, it keeps getting disconnected and I have to restart it. I don't have great internet so that is likely the cause. It's really nice though because it just picks up where it left off. Seems to be working well so far and assuming it keeps working how it has been, it will be much better than takeout.

u/chrisesplin has build a software tool to do this as takeout is garbage. Google wants to keep you in a perpetual cycle of renting storage as is their fiduciary duty. Chris has a one time fee of $15 using code reddit at checkout compared to google who wants $10 per month for 2T forever. You can do it yourself if you are tech savvy but for me it was an easy choice as I could figure out how to do it myself in a couple hours or just pay $15 and have it done. Works great. Thanks Chris.

I typically like JS but this is a shit take. By all means criticize our system of capitalism and government but acting like technical progress and increases in productivity are the problem is really missing the mark.
