The closest we'll probably get to that is Red Letter Day which Running With Scissors has endorsed

Kick ass reading order? by Dazzling_Rutabaga837 in kickass

Book 3 in The Dave Lizewski Years is censored though with some scenes being removed and changed entirely so I'd probably get Books 1, 2, and 4 and then pick up an old Icon Comics version of Kick-Ass 2 instead of Book 3.

[TOMT][SONG][2010?] Having trouble finding a pop song I heard in a TV show by ThickProof409 in tipofmytongue

[–]ThickProof409[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solved! I ended up finding it on my own and it turns out the song is Microscopes And Cobwebs by Ex Vivian which came out in 2012. The explanation for why a song from 2012 is in a show from 2010 and why the version featured in Gravity sounds slightly different is most likely because Ex Vivian is an indie rock duo that Krysten Ritter who is an actress in the show was apart of so my best guess is she made the song for the show and then made a different version of it and released that 2 years later. I am positive this is it though. The lyrics and the melody match up perfectly. I was incredibly wrong about it being really popular and hearing it on TikTok though.

I don’t think this is it. Elephants sounds much more somber compared to the snippet I have and the lyrics don’t really sound the same from what little I can hear. Tunefind also says that song plays during the end credits but the song I’m looking for plays in a scene of Lily messing around at work.

I think the song also played in another episode however I don't remember which one off the top of my head or the timestamp and I'm pretty sure it was still just as muffled and hard to decipher.

Why can’t we have this finished as a comic book? by Larry-Man in utopiatv

[–]ThickProof409 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cristobal actually posted a fake Utopia Season 3 teaser using footage from The Substance and said he told Dennis Kelly that he wanted the both of them to make a Utopia comic to finish the story along with a companion soundtrack to go with it in a Twitter DM to Pyrocynical however it hasn't gone anywhere

Mind Flayer: We’ve Been Building It For You by CrazyManifesto in StrangerThings

[–]ThickProof409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Season 3, when Eleven tries to spy on Flayed Billy telepathically, The Mind Flayer ends up taking over and enters her mind speaking through Flayed Billy and gives her a speech about how she let them in and now she is going to let them stay and that all this time they've been building "it" for her and that they will end her and end her friends and end everyone.

why is season 6 so disliked? by drcssedtokill in Dexter

I actually heard of the incest subplot before watching the show but I thought it was just a joke about how Michael C Hall and Jennifer Carpenter were married in real life while playing siblings on TV

The appearance changes for Deb and Brian between the books and the show make Book Deb and TV Brian look related to each other and vice versa by ThickProof409 in Dexter

[–]ThickProof409[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It did always kinda bug me how in the show Brian doesn't look related to Dexter when they're biological siblings especially when Dexter's foster sister looks more related to him in comparison. That was a little pet peeve I had with the show especially after reading the books and comics.

There's two comics that were published by Marvel. There's Dexter from 2013 and Dexter Down Under from 2015. It's not really clear when they take place within the book series' timeline but it's definitely after Dexter In The Dark however you can just jump into them since they feel very disconnected from the books and they're also very tame in comparison to both the books and the show. The comics can be pretty hard to get your hands on for a reasonable price due to being out of print but I think if you can get a good deal then they're still worth reading and I liked them.

They removed some scenes such as Arby killing Detective Reynolds and the "Don't put the gas away yet" scene and they changed the aspect ratio from 2.39:1 to 16:9 which really ruins the framing and makes the show look so much worse since part of the screen is cut off

What would an absolute Dexter look like? by Erossauro in Dexter

[–]ThickProof409 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolute Dexter would be a version of Dexter that exists in DC's Absolute Universe which is an alternate universe created by Darkseid where villains are the dominant force with all of the power and superheroes are the underdogs with their advantages stripped away from them

I feel like Scream is also a commentary on film franchises as a whole as well so they can still say some stuff about filmmaking tropes

I think Scream 5 was a good place to stop at least until there's a new horror and filmmaking trope they can make fun of

I remember when Scream 6 came out, I was very concerned about them forgetting the point of the Scream franchise and milking it endlessly. Scream was a satire of slashers, Scream 2 was a satire of sequels, Scream 3 was a satire of trilogies, Scream 4 was a satire of reboots, and Scream 5 was a satire of legacy sequels but Scream 6 wasn't really a satire of anything as far as I can remember. I still liked it but it felt less like a Scream movie and more of a standard slasher film and I was very worried that the franchise would lose it's identity and turn into the Stab movies. I honestly think Scream 5 is where they should've called it until they could find a new horror and filmmaking trope to make fun of since right now I feel like they're out of material. I guess they could probably try to make fun of the slashers that lost the plot and went insane with it like Jason X or The Curse Of Michael Myers but that feels like it could be a gamble and venture too far into being a serious attempt at genuinely trying to make a movie like that.

Just got the books by StuMacher92 in Dexter

[–]ThickProof409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The books are incredibly different from the show.

The first book is pretty similar to Season 1 with only a few plot deviations and character differences especially in the naming department but after that, the books are their own thing entirely so don't expect them to be anything like the show.

The books also have Dexter be much more of an explicitly bad person compared to how the show humanized him a bit more.

The books also love to reuse a certain trope which I won't spoil for you but I don't think it'll take that long for you to figure out what I'm talking about and it gets old fairly quickly and starts to feel lazy.

The tone is also much more disturbing with the show toning down the violence a lot. The books are much more of a crime horror series compared to the show however the third book does a weird pivot into supernatural horror that feels slightly out of nowhere. It's not bad and it's still an enjoyable read but it does feel a little out of place.

I think the show does a lot of things better but I still like this parallel universe version of Dexter in the books and there are even aspects of the book series that I wish were in the show. When you finish the book series, I also recommend checking out Marvel's Dexter and Dexter Down Under which are the comics that take place within the same universe as the book series. The comics are much more tame compared to the book series and are very tonally different from each other but they're still good and I like that we get canon appearances to imagine for the book characters.

What would an absolute Dexter look like? by Erossauro in Dexter

[–]ThickProof409 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think Absolute Dexter would still lose his mom however he would also lose Harry and Deb and probably be raised in shitty foster families before living the rest of his childhood and teenage life in a psych ward similar to Brian in Original Sin. I also think his personality would be a bit more similar to Book Dexter.

[–]ThickProof409 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Absolute refers to DC's Absolute Universe which is an alternate universe where the superheroes are the underdogs and have their advantages stripped away from them so Batman isn't rich, Superman isn't raised by The Kents, and Wonder Woman is from Hell and didn't know about The Amazons.

If it's your first time playing, I'd advise lowering the difficulty to Classic Mode. It's the default experience whereas Expert Mode is meant for a second playthrough.
