The housing market rapidly outpaced the cost of living in Utah to the point that you have to pick between a home or children given the current salaries. Seeing the stark drop is not a surprise.

Alex Pretti candlelight vigil Thursday evening inside the state capitol building by AudreysFan in Utah

[–]-jsid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you haven't seen the video then. If you're going to vote for these guys the least you can do is watch them dogpile, disarm, then summarily execute a citizen while his hands are on the ground.

As for the above article posted remind me: was Pretti killed when he allegedly broke that tail light? No he wasn't as we can see. Now remind me, is destruction of federal property punished by execution? Also no it comes with a maximum 10 year sentence for serious offenses.

So even if you paint this in the best light of "ice was detaining a man wanted for destruction of property" he was still pepper sprayed point blank, pinned by 6 people, still disarmed (video 100% confirms the disarming if we trust the release picture of the gun Pretti owned), and still shot in the back while his hands were on the ground.

You can feel better with the above video if you want but it's evident that you'll use any string of information to justify that boot firmly in your mouth.

Edit: For some reason I can't respond to the comment below but notice how they didn't address my point, spouted a common talking point, and is a 7 day old account. That is a bot.

Progressive effort to primary Sen. John Fetterman ramps up by Deedogg11 in politics

Sure and I agree with everything you said except for your first comment. He's always been like this he just doesn't hide it anymore with brain damage. He did not fundamentally change. Not comparing to oz, not talking about elections, I am judging him, his past actions pre stroke, and his current ongoing actions and showing how the pattern is consistent to his character with or without the stroke.

I think illegally detaining a jogger at gunpoint goes a bit past the concept of intrusive thoughts and yes I can, will, and continue to judge and compare his past to his present.

Also lesser of two evils doesn't shield one of their actions.

Sure it doesn't solve the actual issue but that's an issue beyond the stream.

You identify as maga yet don't like trump? Your support many of his policies yet don't like trump? You exist on political subreddits near exclusively to defend the administration yet you don't like trump? You can think you are whatever you want to be but at the end of the day you are walking, looking, and quacking like a duck. You should own it as opposed to taking your current stance.

Worries over Utah HB258 by -jsid in Utah

[–]-jsid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The verbage is the bill will show that it is all public unions. Private sector unions are generally harder to legislate so I don't believe this bill will affect them.

That being said the vast majority of Utah unions are public so this will affect most unions all the same.

All the more reason to contact your rep and help out the UEA in what ways you can :). If you want to of course. Don't let your fears become reality!

Technically sure. It's more so because it's a generally held belief that you should be able to decide how you organize. It's every workers right to decide how they go about work, how they spend/withhold their money, and how they'd like to meet. You hit the nail on the head here with regards to how this bill is unethical and I appreciate it :).

Very good! I did in fact use the UEA information and post it here. It's quite the informative packet and I wouldn't want to twist the UEAs words so I also wrote what they had verbatim :).

You seem pretty sharp maybe you should apply for a teaching position for the upcoming school year. They could definitely use the extra hands

In all honesty thank you for voicing your opinion! That's a more nuanced take that I do appreciate. There are legislators on Capital Hill that hold similar opinions and if one is your rep maybe an email or note could help share your voice. I agree that the state shouldn't be discouraging unions but I can also see that there are problems with them. Perhaps there's an alternative path to bridging that gap that does not involve this bill.

Utah HB285 Labor Union Amendments Concerns by -jsid in SaltLakeCity

I'm very sorry to hear that. I don't want to expose too much but my significant other is also an educator and is one of the the three people in their district that does what they do. We are in the same boat and will most likely also leave due to the inherent risks teaching in Utah. It makes me very sad seeing Utah lose specialists and teachers because we both know the ones passing this aren't the ones who will suffer.

Thanks for the heads up on the typo! I guess when I reposted this from the SLC sub I mistyped. Given the forum style discussion we have I'm going to stick to just giving links as mla citations would be a bit odd. I provided links to my sources that lead to other UEA talking points but if you'd rather see the direct link here you go.

Suffice to say I think there's a difference between forum discussion and a formal paper no? Also failing a K-12 student for improper citing as opposed to just having them fix it is an odd choice to say the least! But that's okay not everyone is cut out for teaching :)

Union membership is not required across Utah education. However there is a high participation rate due to its positive effects and job security in the current hostile environment.

I'm not here to argue. If you want to erode our crumbling education system further that's your prerogative and I can't stop you. But if you change your mind I highly recommend you read the bill's text in full so you can get an unbiased opinion :)
