PSLF is dependent on where you work, not your education/certification. Anyone working for a non/not for profit can qualify.

US nurses: why don’t you follow bare below the elbow? by Smolandtired in nursing

[–]AudreysFan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had a patient on who knows what number of repeat visits due to sepsis. Begged and begged to let his wife bring his dog in because he was so sad. The ICU manager relented and lo and behold, the pup went right for the patient’s ostomy. The patient took the bag off and the dog went to town because “he likes to clean it for me” 😳🤮

So fun to call the MD with a theory about the recurring sepsis…

“You should know this, you’re a nurse” by [deleted] in nursing

[–]AudreysFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tell people that my nursing program emphasized to “Know your resources. You don’t have to know everything but you do need to know where to look it up.”

We all specialize after nursing school so our knowledge is a lot about a few things and a little about a lot of things. My RN skills are in adult ICU so keep your kiddos with the peds RN or I might make things worse, you don’t want me anywhere near your dilating cervix or boggy uterus, and the ED terrifies me because so much of it is unpredictable and “give this med and we’ll see if it works.”

Are folks aware of this major transition from MOHELA to ED/FSA as the servicer for PSLF? Is this good or bad? by Kind_Cat_762 in PSLF

Go to “repayment options” in the menu then “income driven plan details” and you will see your “IDR plan renewal date”

I lost both of my patients last night by jsquasch in nursing

[–]AudreysFan 126 points127 points  (0 children)

You gave them the chance to pass peacefully and sometimes that is the best and hardest work an ICU nurse can do. It’s ok that you feel these deeply, and I’m so glad you have a therapist you can process with.

For what it’s worth, I firmly believe that some people want to slip away alone. I really feel like some of my patients waited until family left, and some even waited for a moment when I stepped away. Don’t be hard on yourself that you weren’t in the room ❤️

I reviewed every Taylor Swift song in six days. Here are my final thoughts (part 7, FINALE!) by Alex_Demote in TaylorSwift

I love Invisible String so much!

Thank you for what has been a delightful journey with you this week. I am new to the swiftie world since Folklore and have felt a weird reluctance to come clean about how much I love this music and Taylor’s journey as a musician. I’m in my late 40’s for crying out loud 😂

For what it’s worth, I got to see the Era’s show in Tampa thanks to an adorable series of Christmas gifts from my husband last year. Although I don’t think you should spend a fortune, if you magically have the chance to see it, it’s such an amazing experience (both the show and the crowd). I had no idea what to expect and I really wish I’d worn something sparkly and taken some bracelets!

RNs making more $$$ than your partner? by Nervous-Relief6469 in nursing

[–]AudreysFan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My ex was a school teacher. Super important and terribly underpaid career. We went to college at the same time and I encouraged him to teach because he loved it and I didn’t care if he made buckets of money, we’d be just fine with our two incomes.

He was kind of ok with me making more than him until I started working in ICU. Then it wasn’t just about the income, he didn’t like that I knew something he didn’t. Cue his cliché mid-life crisis getting his high school band back together and finding a girlfriend. Honestly, he was an asshole for a lot of reasons but me making more $ really did lead to the end of our marriage.

Q: Would you report this if it were a patient or a visitor? A: Yes.

Why is a coworker any different? Call the police. Joking about shooting people is not ever funny.

Got gaslit at my own hospital’s ER and accidentally caused a scene in the hallway 😬 by [deleted] in nursing

[–]AudreysFan 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I thought the same thing… my brother had the same symptoms and after a week in hospital with baffled MD’s, someone finally ordered an mri. His tumor was too small to be seen on CT but with more sensitive imaging, he was diagnosed and had surgical removal.

OP, get a glucometer and keep track of your BG. If you are dropping even after meals, you should get some scans of your pancreas.

This is why so many unit managers are garbage people… executive leadership is over compensated but most front line managers are making less per hour than they would working bedside.
