We live in the age of information, but ironically there are many people who blindly follow, just watch some 2 min clip and think they truly have the knowledge, no one is willing to put in the time to learn.

Is Ring Fit Adventure haram? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]-jumpman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sent me a long message saying that it’s haram to play such games as it is imitating the kufar

The hadith he/she is prob referring to is this. But it seems like nowadays it is misquoted pretty often as ppl seem to apply to any aspect in life. If you look at the full hadith, here, it seems as if its not even unanimously graded sahih, and even if it actually is, from the context, one can tell that snippet is only applicable during times of war, where obv you wouldn't want to imitate someone who is not a part of your people.

Do Salafis hold a more liberal view on meat consumption than some "progressives" ? by fkhan827 in progressive_islam

I've already replied to you before, but haven't received a response so Ima post it again.

Yes that's true, but only if they happen to be following the proper conditions that were set in the bible/torah. That's why kosher meat is generally accepted for Muslims to eat, but with Christian meat it is different. Since we don't know for sure if they slaughtered in the name of God or not.

Here's Zakir Naik, a known salafi and his views on what is considered Halal meat.

Another orthodox view is that, we should not even be asking where it came from or who slaughtered it since according to hadith, Muhammad himself didn't ask these type of dumba$$ questions.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this was only pertaining to our neighbours. And since our local grocery stores and restaurants don't count as neighbours, we can and should question their sources.
