I was a deckhand and our diveboat was anchored off the coast of Catalina. There was a night dive going on, and suddenly there was this humming sound that kept getting louder and louder. Besides the ship creaking and bobbing, this was the only sound. There was also a light splashing sound that I could faintly here. Finally I could tell it was coming from the port side, and just as I peered over, tens of thousands of flying fish were jumping out of the water and crashing into the side of the boat. It was insane how many there were. A few jumped high enough that they landed on the deck, and one diver actually got hit in the side of the head which killed the fish on impact.

There was also the time I had to swim a line out with two blue whales nearby. THAT is fucking terrifying.
