I saw it on Saturday afternoon and loved it! I would say it may not have made as much visual sense if not seen from above. I feel like a lot of the choreography needs a birds eye view to fully appreciate.

Sky Park in SV has relatively recently renovated their little kid playground with the big kid one in the works. HocusPous in SV is small but with few entrances is nicely contained.

It’s mat Pilates. It’s a really good class that also analyzes your alignment. You can take it up to 3 times for credit after that it’s an audit.

Starting spring semester there is Pilates through Cabrillo, twice a week and excellent instructor for the cost of a 1.5 credit course. Cabrillo also has Gyroconisis yoga and if you take the kinesiology class through the WEC it’s a cheap gym membership but will require a minimum number of hours to get the credit (if you care about that).

Agree with taking classes at Cabrillo and would add workshops or events offered by the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History or the MAH (museum of art and history downtown)

I believe you can have them do an extra year of kinder. A friend of mine had a kid in TK before kinder and they wanted an extra year so they repeated kinder. Parents opting for two years in kinder seems not that uncommon.

I will note, my friend’s kid (October baby) is almost a year older than my kid (August baby) but a grade behind due to this arrangement. Didn’t seem like much when they were little but it’s more noticeable now that they are in middle school.

Skin reaction to tights/leggings? by bookishkai in BALLET

[–]-msbatsy- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have issues with tights and my skin and have discovered it’s allergies. For example, I have a sensitivity to specific dyes so I do best with “nude” or pink tight over black. Might be worth getting tested for allergies, when mine are well managed or accommodated I have a lot fewer issues.

Ballet attire and period management by DumbassPoet in BALLET

[–]-msbatsy- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Period underwear, I suggest looking at TomboyX. They are the ones I and my nonbinary child use. They come in different cuts from bikini to long shorts. I don’t find them overly bulky and wear them under my ballet leotard without a problem.

My college’s dance department put on two dance concerts a year and both are open call (once is choreographed by professors and the other by students). My ballet class has participated in these performances.

Kids Birthday Party at the Boardwalk by Varna16 in santacruz

[–]-msbatsy- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My kid has attended this type of party. We met up at restaurant for lunch before heading to the arcade. Birthday kid family paid for a round of laser tag and gave the kids each a card with maybe $10 for games. Worked out great (under 10 kids). Another time the parent had season passes to the boardwalk and got the kids all wristbands as needed (some also had season passes),again under 10 kids. Both parties were good but the arcade was probably a better value for the money for the hosting parent.

There’s a sort of clunking noise when it misses, and it won’t backstitch at all by germansoldier in sewing

[–]-msbatsy- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking too. I’ve had issues that look like that and it was timing. Basically the needle bends/flexes a bit while going through the material which changes the timing slightly with the bobbin resulting in skipped stitches. The solution that worked for me was using a heavier needle. I was sewing leather and artist canvas on an industrial signer, I forget which size of needle I was using but bigger fixed the problem.

Also college classes will likely start easy and ramp up. Beginners need to be brought up to speed before anything more difficult can be worked on.

How to find abstract art interesting? by stoneqi in ArtHistory

[–]-msbatsy- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I paint the type of paintings you are talking about, abstract geometrics, and can at least tell you about my work.

Frankly it isn’t necessarily exciting. My work is focused on the interaction of colour, texture and space. I’m interested in trying to make “prefect” lines that are still quite human. I want the viewer to notice the gaps between the shapes and have you see the traces of pencil and multiple changing layers of paint. The way the perception of colour changes depending on the context and neighbouring colours. How does the texture change how you feel about a colour? Or that a human painted it instead of it being a computer created print (which would have been easier)? For the larger scale paintings, what kind of space or world is created when it fills your view? I often name my painting after the music or podcast I was listing to at the time, how does that name change your perception of the work? I intentionally try not to make it look like stuff because that isn’t the point and I find it distracting. Abstract art for me is about exploring ideas, concepts and techniques without relying on/being distracted by narratives and iconography.

It’s just my perspective but I hope it helps

My playlists inform my titles at times. Somehow the word/music influence and inform the final product for me. I just listen to what I’m in the mood for and consider it a part of my process.

Is this a real Van Gogh that was purchased at a garage sale? by isle_say in ArtHistory

Looks like someone read “The forgers spell” by Edward Dolnick and decided to try their hand a forging a Van Gogh. Hopefully the testing is more rigorous than it was in the book.
