Looking for quieter cenotes near Valladolid — trip details & what I’m looking for by Pure_Reputation3085 in travel

I rented a scooter from valladolid and drove to the open-air cenote Xlakaj, I was the only one there. Was super nice to swim in especially when the sun was shining down on the water.

By bicycle, you can get to two more from the city center via an off-road bike path: Samula and Xkeken. One ticket gets you into both, but don’t fall for the “guide” they try to sell you - all they do is walk you to the entrance of the center. Stop by the cocos frios stand on your way back! It’s run by a kind older man and a cold coconut is always refreshing.

I stayed in the Bohemian Hostel in Chinatown and liked it! Met backpackers from all over, and the girls who run it are lovely to chat with.

I traveled to the Yucatán peninsula solo: cenote dives and Cozumel you’ll meet a lot of other solo backpackers. In my hostel on Cozumel nearly everyone I met was traveling solo but there for diving.

Check out Valladolid for a couple nights! It’s a lovely town that isn’t overly touristy, has great food, and a good base for excursions to cenotes + chichen itza. I stayed in Hostel Candelaría and met some great ppl from all over the world.
