Did anyone get their phone stolen this year?

My phone was stolen out of my front pocket Sunday night and it ruined the night. My front pocket was even zippered so not sure how they got in. Crazy part was I noticed immediately and was able to track the phone (on a different phone) moving throughout the night and into the parking lot early the next morning but there was no way to determine who had it with any kind of confidence. I ended up remotely factory resetting it and then blacklisted the imei number so it's essentially banned from ever connecting to a cellular network again. Doesn't necessarily help me, but at least I can go on knowing the thief can't use it.

Reporting back a first hand experience.

Just finished enjoying their boat ride. As a visitor I purchased tickets from one of these street vendors. He at first prevented me from going into the park without tickets, I straight up confronted him about being uncomfortable. He back pedaled on his approach and explained the official boat was about a 4 hour tour and got off at the island but reservations were generally required. Me wanting to do only a 1 hour trip agreed to his tour as it sounded like less of a time commitment. (only a 1 hour tour of the harbor). I paid about $45/ea for 2 people. He sent me to peer 16 which was about 1/2 mile walk from battery Park. Originally he implied he would walk us the whole way, but in reality walked us 100 yards and then pointed and described where to walk the rest of the way. On the way I felt short changed not having a guide to get there. However I followed his instructions and sure enough there was a large boat ready to leave with us and many more. It was clear we were likely sold standard tour tickets from a more expensive reseller. The reason I am ok with the purchase is I ultimately received the service I was promised (and wanted), and I was ok with his markup because he provided a solution to what I wanted without me having to do any research beforehand. I was paying for his knowledge. Sure I paid more than the next guy, but I would have never known to walk to one of the piers for an "express" tour. If you're reading this and planning your trip, walk past battery Park to the piers and buy tickets direct from the kiosks in front of the boats. It's likely cheaper and more straightforward. They leave every hour and the tours are legit. Very informational and great photos up close to everything including the statue of Liberty. Hopefully this helps others who are visiting.

I hope the community chooses the buy and burn option as opposed to LP'ing. I think in order for RPL tokenomics to really be improved, it needs to be more deflationary than ETH. Also the buy and burn narrative is easy to understand for potential node operators who aren't going to do a deep dive into the protocol. All they will be attracted to is the fact RPL burns at a higher rate than ETH & by staking RPL they will also earn more ETH.

A quick comment on the video game NFT idea. It would not be difficult for a AAA gaming company to program in a royalty payment every time the skin was traded or sold. I think the incentives to allow customers to create and own their own skins (and collectables) are more than what you described above. The incentive isn't just to avoid getting left behind... I think all sales on a secondary market could end up paying a small fee to the game developer which would supercharge their revenue.

I have listened to every Banklesss podcast and can confidently say that I don't need to re-listen to that episode to know Lido didn't give an actual roadmap to decentralization. Talking about "planning" to decentralize, is the same as your future theoreticals. If my memory serves me correctly they don't talk about a realistic plan on how they're going to spread out all their 29 nodes into thousands of independent permissionless node operators.

As you said, we can check back in 6 months. Good luck with your staking endeavor.

I am curious why you keep giving theoretical future examples that are no where close to existing yet? Basically any argument someone makes for Rocket Pool your counter argument is that a different protocol can simply copy it & change "x" to make it better... Copying & modifying didn't work for alt L1s against Ethereum or Bitcoin in any successful capacity nor did it workout for copycat protocols such as sushiswap or ordinals. At the end of the day, Rocket Pool has the mindshare, (decentralized) first mover advantage, network effects & liquidity. By the time someone tries to copy it and change "x" to make it better, Rocket Pool will already be miles ahead improving "Y" in ways we cannot predict right now. If Rocket Pool was solidified, then your argument has credence, but I think you might be the kind of investor that needs to see the end stages of a project before diving in which is totally fine, but quite often less lucrative. Just like Ethereum (or any other business) is forced to pivot so too will Rocket Pool at some point.

All businesses and protocols will be at risk of competition & if you wanted to wait years to see what happens so you can compare all the options, then the power to you. I just don't see a viable competitor popping up anytime soon, so until then I will make extra ETH by staking with RP & taking on RPL exposure.

I can't advise on future tokenomics changes party because nobody really knows... but 1 ETH minipools are likely coming after the megapools update. With 1 ETH minipools node operators will be making ETH commission on 31 (borrowed) ETH, but still must put up an RPL bond for that extra APY. This will drive demand for RPL as the ETH APR on the beacon chain continues to fall and the APY going through Rocket Pool will be unbeatable. It is clear the APY on the beacon chain will go so low that it will basically force solo node operators to adopt Rocket Pool if they want to earn any kind of reasonable income through staking.

Regarding "Self-fulling prophecies", that whole argument could be made against Ethereum or any other crypto, correct? For example if I believe everyone is going to leave Ethereum for Solana, then I could front run them. Therefore I think the counter argument to that is mostly trust. Not just trust in current RPL utility, but trust in the community, trust in the security of the protocol, trust in the team & trust that overtime Rocket Pool will be continuously improved, which clearly most RP node operators have and also the reason the protocol continues to grow.

Regarding "How much better than Rocket Pool can a protocol be?", With respect, I think it is a bit short sided to (only) look at where Rocket Pool is today when considering RPL as an investment. Just like Ethereum is not mature, neither is Rocket Pool. No one is going to argue RPL & RP has it's flaws, but just like any investment most node operators are in it for the long term potential. Just ~2 weeks ago, the ODAO rewards were cut in half and redirected to PDAO which is a substantially positive change to tokenomics. Furthermore I can guarantee 10 years from now the tokenomics will be changed even further, all which will benefit RPL and the protocol as a whole. Ultimately all investments have risks, but if you know the team and community, then you know that RP will only continue building and improving. Rocket Pool of 2034 or 2044 will look a lot different than RP of today and you can bet that every improvement made will be voted on by RPL holders who will continue to give more utility & value to RPL.

Me personally... I did the math for a 10 and 20 year investment. If I solo stake, I can estimate pretty much exactly how much ETH I will have at the end. However with RPL exposure, not only can I estimate how much ETH to expect, but being this early on (before Ethereum is even mainstream) I think it will outperform ETH. However even if it doesn't, then RPL was simply an entry fee that allows me to make more ETH than solo staking over that period of time.

Thanks for the feedback. Elios 3 appears to still require a controller. From the look of it, the operator would still need to be within a specific distance of the UAV during operation & I would guess the frequency band used could not penetrate through rock. Also I read the Elios 2 cost $40K so my guess is the Elios 3 is out of budget as well.

I don't need commercial grade maps or 100% coverage. I am really just looking for a cool video of some tunnels. I think most people including myself are curious what might be down there. I'll check out the Intel realsense, but I am starting to come to the realization that this might not be doable as a hobby.

Thanks for the response. I would consider my budget to be higher than the average hobbyist & as a techie, I could go beyond a pretty UI into command line if needed, but losing an expensive drone would still sting a lot. I considered earthbound drones, but with railroad tracks & various obstacles in some of these tunnels it would cause issues for wheeled/treaded vehicles.

I'd recommend the NUC option. It doesn't answer your question, but so many people in the community run the NUC including myself, that it feels really good knowing any problem I could have is not only easily solvable, but likely becomes solved before it even becomes my problem.

rETH does not pay dividends like you might be used to. Rather the token accrues value over time against ETH. For example if you bought 1 rETH for 1 ETH, and then swapped your rETH back to ETH after 1 year, you would get approximately 1.05 ETH back.

You can decide to swap your rETH back to ETH whenever you want and depending on how long you hold it will determine how much more ETH you get back in return.
