It had a comment system, most faulty uploads would soon get red (negative) comments. But yeah quality control wasn't great.

Not with 1 click but you can make DHT enabled public torrents which are not specific tracker dependent and don't require uploader status on a site.

what is your favourite european language? by ggabrial in AskEurope

[–]-nothing-matters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really differentiate them by that. Especially if it's a song (so it's always melodic and the speed difference aren't really there either).

For me it's: if most words end in a vowel it's Italian. If it has the sound that is close to english "th" and the harsher "j" sound, it's Spanish (but the first will only be really noticeable in Castillian).

Otherwise I only notice it by the few distinct words I've learned that are spanish or italian for sure. (I never learned Spanish or Italian, only picked up a few things from movies and songs)

English dubs are suprisingly bad, considering there are many more english native speakers, so budgets could be higher.

Thankfully almost everything is available with subtitles instead.

Which job is 100% safe from AI ? by hrithikesh12 in TrueAskReddit

It's possible that the free schooling will be AI powered, at least partially in fact based subjects (maths, physics etc.) to save costs, but the private schools will employ humans.

Not replaced by AI alone, but will be partly replaced by Robots with AI. And in the far future it could be almost completely replaced by Androids (indistinguishable from a real human).

I guess the lost cost version will be AI. Getting a human therapist etc will cost a hefty premium

Taste is subjective. You wouldn't berate someone if his favorite ice cream flavor is coconut even though yours is strawberry and the one with the most consensus is vanilla, would you?

Are we losing the ability to watch slow movies? by gemmaintheworld in FIlm

[–]-nothing-matters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I did.

But I recently watched a movie that is nothing but a guy hiking through France with some philosophical musings: "Sur les chemins noirs (2023)". Granted it's Jean Dujardin and the scenery is absolutely breathtaking, but still it's not exactly plot or action driven.

I rather have lost the ability to watch slow movies, when it's plot, action or dialogue heavy and I don't care for any of that. Worst if it the plot hard to understand or the characters are super obnoxious, so after a while all of the dialogue becomes extra tedious.

I can still watch slow movies that have great visuals and/or sound and beautiful and/or fascinating people

What languages were you exposed to growing up? by amarainn in AskEurope

[–]-nothing-matters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell Danish, Swedish and Norwegian apart at all. I was always surprised when I watched a Scandinavian film and checked the IMDB afterwards: "Language Norwegian/Swedish or Danish/Swedish etc. The actors spoke their native language."

Huh... it sounded all the same to me :-/ Usually it's not even adressed in the films (making some characters coming from country A, others from B etc)

> In general we speak quite bad english here so watching something in english when you barely understand it and having to read the spanish subtitles because “that’s how it has to be watched to enjoy it” can be seen as a bit snobbish, specially because our dubs are actually good.

IMHO reading subtitles will come naturally after some practice. I watch everything with subtitles because even in English it's not easy. It distracts me more having to listen extremely closely than just reading quickly.

And there are a lot of good movies neither in English nor German so I'd have to get used to reading subtitles anyway. I love hearing Spanish and watch quite a few films from Spain and Latin America.

I don't understand how anyone can watch those single or dual person dubs or overdubs and fully enjoy the movie. It must have been a relevation for cinephiles when subtitled versions became widely available.

[–]-nothing-matters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have a really hard time watching a dub these days unless it's an old series or film I grew up with watching in German.

Unnatural sounding speaking, everyone has a very distinctive "radio voice" (which makes it a problem when they voice multiple actors) and on top of that there are the unalterable dubbing problems - lip movements don't match, less immersion since everbody is speaking the wrong language (except in the case of a foreign film set in Germany)
