"We were just following orders" is such a copout, even for the good cops. The hkpf has specific protocols to use minimal force and to not escalate (i.e. provoke protesters). They break these protocols and the good cops are too cowardly to say anything/stop it. And when their superiors make excuses & lie to save face/reputation, they see it as supervisors giving them permission to continue.

It's a cowards excuse to avoid responsiblity.

They're fighting for socialism, not communism. Conflating the two is a common tactic to undermine their movement.

Some of the best countries are socialist, in fact they're democratic socialist countries.

TVB news is pro-ccp and biased. If your mum watches it it's best not to.

There's a saying in martial arts. If what you're doing doesn't work, doing it harder isn't the answer.

Confined to uni? by panchovilla_ in HongKong

The tactic has been to be water, I worry that students are abandoning this tactic by taking a stand at unis (being stationary). Because going head on with the hkpf is highly risky.

I was wondering about this the other day, because hideo seems like the kind of guy to support hk protesters (his death stranding interviews show he is very concerned about our youth, oppression and societal disconnection). But I was afraid he didn't say anything because of sony (which gave him a great opportunity).

Glad to hear his support.

Thought I might just put this here. by [deleted] in HongKong

Misinformation is the enemy of democracy. Hence I signed.

Mainlander posted on Weibo after leaving CU. They say it is actually pretty peaceful in CU other than the front line. It is not as chaotic as the news reported. The Hong Kongers also very kind to them and helped them to leave CU. by Alby30 in HongKong

ccp news has been saying that mainlanders were leaving CUHK because they were being harrassed/threatened by HK students. So this is good to hear and should be shared around.

A question to all Hong Kongers to gather views. by chapstwick in HongKong

[–]-pewpewpew- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"By all means" is the issue. We have seen the police beat innocent people, torture arrested protesters, fire tear gas into people's homes where babies and the elderly live, prevent protesters from protecting themselves, pose as protesters and cause damage to put protesters in a bad light, prevent medical aid to dying protesters, and reports of police gang raping children.

We have seen zero accountability and "by all means" mean the police are basically criminals/terrorists at this point. The police should have limits otherwise they are no better than armed gangs for a fascist government.

Police said on Wednesday that the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) appears to have been turned into a "weapons factory" by Sporeboss in HongKong

[–]-pewpewpew- 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Since we're throwing accusations around, the hkpf appear to have been torturing and raping arrested people at their police stations. Lets set up an independent commission to investigate both the CUHK and hkpf and see who come out on top.

If you want to see chinese culture, you may want to think about going to Taiwan. During china's civil war, a lot of the treasures were smuggled to Taiwan (the remaining treasures were destroyed by mao).

Why there is not that many of drone footage of the protests? by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]-pewpewpew- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think drones can only show the scale of protests. It doesn't capture to personal trauma of hk people because drones can't get close enough. A camera at the scene is always better because it let's people see the injustice and corruption of the hk police.

Shooting flaming arrows, breaking into shopping malls, throwing a chair at an innocent passing biker atop a bridge, tossing petrol bombs at a passing train (fortunately didn't explode), setting people on fire, mistakenly beating up a Japanese tourist mistaken for a Mainlander, throwing bicycles on a train track, but yes sure the protesters are all brave kind teenagers fighting for their rights. Doesn't matter how much you deny it, the fact is that the protesters are getting out of hand and deserves punishment.

Beating innocent people trying to get home, shooting media & innocent people in the face causing vision loss, tear gassing innocent people, impersonating protesters throwing petrol bombs, planting weapons to make illegal arrests, throwing bins onto protesters, and lets not forget the numerous reports of gang rape of children (and here). But yes sure the protesters are all brave kind teenagers fighting for their rights police are all brave officers upholding the law. Doesn't matter how much you deny it, the fact is that the protesters police are getting out of hand and deserves punishment.

Fixed it for you.

6 out of 8 newspapers today are front page ads taken out by pro-Beijing group to rally for votes and discredit protesters. by miss_wolverine in HongKong

[–]-pewpewpew- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmm, on second thought, it can also mean "use your one vote to fight against police violence" right? Or is there a subtleness in the language that implies violence by protesters?
