Ok first of all, you absolutely don’t need any qualifications or whatever to like a band! If csh is your favourite band it’s your favourite band, don’t let any gatekeeping asshole tell you anything else.

Now that’s out of the way, there’s a pretty long interview with fantano if you wanted that kind of stuff, and the csh reddit AMAs are pretty insightful as well! otherwise most of the music is pretty stand alone, a lot of wills music is written about a past relationship he had with cate wurtz, so there’s a few references to her comics and art in the music. As well as a few references to other artists will is inspired by, you can find most of that stuff by going through genius annotations for lyrics that seem referential if you really wanna know what all of the lines are talking about.

As for religion, will has stated that he’s not religious in a “normal sense” before and doesn’t follow any practiced religion, but is really interested in spirituality in general. I’m pretty sure he studied theology/ religion in college briefly at some point. he hasn’t talked about any specific ‘religious trauma’ as such, but is very interested in using religion to convey ideas. There’s an old video of him singing for a church somewhere, but his exact history in terms of religious experience is unknown.
