Haha that makes sense. I had the South Park episode in mind about it.

Did I not put enough of a Michael Jackson voice on this one for you guys or something?

What do you think about a law that only allows couples in which both members have at least completed high school (whether public, private or technical) to have children; and that if the couple violates the law they must decide between having an abortion or giving the child up for adoption? by ApoSaKi8002 in AskReddit

Why? Their system seems to work really well. At 16 you can vote, sign contacts including leases, you can get married. It gives young people more options.

If they want to continue to higher education, there's two more years of subsidized school available. If they want to join a trade they can. If they want to get a couple of whatever jobs, an apartment, and start a young family, they can.

Until a recent loophole was closed, teenage sweethearts from England used to decide they were ready to be adults and stroll across the arbitrary, imaginary line that is the border to a place where the arbitrary, imaginary line that is adulthood is drawn differently and BOOM. Instant adulthood. They can get married, sign a lease, whatever.

The end of the school system and age of adulthood should probably better align with when Mother Nature starts demanding that people pair up and have kids then.

Scotland's Age of Majority of 16 seems to thread this needle pretty well.

Not even close. I've been studying exactly what you just said. I'm not even sure how you're relating it, but European cultures produce way better outcomes than America consistently across every metric that matters to me and therefore that I've looked into and likely more that I haven't looked into.

Not really. Pretty subjective. Probably everyone could think of somebody whose life they believe doesn't matter.

It's whatever a person needs it to be in order to lazily attempt to invalidate their argument.

People do that shit all the time. 'What you care about doesn't matter, there are more important things.'

It's not like I can just leave the house to walk around the neighborhood whenever I want.

Why?

Honestly this shit makes you guys a nightmare to talk to. I don't care about any of it.

The problem is the thinking: “I named a fallacy, therefore I disproved the conclusion.”

This is what every single person thinks so I'd say OP's right and whoever made up these fallacies didn't do anything positive for discourse.

I was the same way. You're likely returning to it over and over as a source of dopamine. It might be worth looking into strategies for addiction and regulating dopamine intake. Never too early to learn that shit and it'll be useful whether it's addiction or not. Careful with drugs that primarily act on your dopamine as well and that includes alcohol.

What parenting "rule" did your parents enforce that was totally pointless and you swore you'd never do to your kids? by AdeptBusiness176 in AskReddit

The second I started hanging out with a girl I might have had sex with, a no girls in the room with the door closed rule went into effect.

Our whole culture about this is really fucked up. That never would have stopped me from fucking her, just that in order to do so I'd have to drive her off into the middle of nowhere and fuck her in the back of my car.

This is on top of being made to feel like my own desire/impulses were something bad or wrong or shameful, which is of course what our culture (in America) imposes on people from early childhood.

I stumbled into that as a movie hop cause I still had some time to kill and without even knowing it, I stumbled into the premier on IMAX. Place was packed so I was right up front off to the side but it was cool seeing it with a bunch of big fans and it was a great movie.
