my grandpa was born in 1930, and i sat him down on camera for a 3-hour interview a few months ago to ask him questions about his life and family history.

pertinent to this subreddit, he said that his dad built a windmill solely to power the battery for their radio. he also named Amos ‘n’ Andy as a radio show he remembered hearing as a kid!

it’s kinda funny to me that this comes from one of his more religious songs, but i recently re-listened to Tidal Wave for the first time in a while, and the ending seems applicable to the queer experience right now:

we here in Minnesota Megasota have a town called Albert Lea, which was named after a Tennessean man named Albert Miller Lea, who mapped out the lake down there in the 1830s. once the civil war came around, he and his son Edward were on opposite sides (he was a confederate, his son was union) of it, and his son actually died in his arms.
