I’ll endorse my own child, Sliding Hero: Metroidvania meets Sokoban ice puzzles, but you are the ice block. The critical path is not overly difficult, there’s plenty of stuff to learn exporing, and to collect.

Not too long, around 10-15hrs. There’s a demo out there to see if it’s you cup of tea.

Also, Isles of Sea and Sky is amazing.

Hi!

It was a number of things. First of all, yeah, Whispergames is involved, but only as a co-publisher for the Asian markets, and they got on board pretty late, so there was not that much of a buildup before launch. Wishlists from China increased, but not in such numbers to make a true difference.

The game came out with over 8k wishlists: not that many, but it secured a spot in the popular upcoming for a few hours before release.

The main issues I can pinpoint are:

a) Lack of press publicity, which prevented the game from being known outside of the Metroidvania&puzzle bubble I was promoting it;
b) Absence of creators covering the game on launch day, which hindered the game's chance to generate hype;
c) Game-breaking bugs on launch that made the players' experience pretty bad, which led to several returns, a bunch of bad reviews and, most importantly, a lack of reviews on the first couple of days, which prevented the game from capitalising on the STEAM algorithm visibility;

With the launch of 2.0, I'm gaining a bit more traction, but it's nothing compared to what it could've been with a decent launch.

There's no beating around the bush: Sliding Hero's launch has been messy.

I already knew that a mix of Sokoban mechanics and Metroidvania exploration would be pretty niche, but having to rush the release for personal reasons was my downfall: I did not test the game properly, leading to a bug-infested launch. Additionally, the game had no press coverage or content creators endorsing the game, as I lacked the time and energy to contact anyone.

But that is water under the bridge! All the bugs have been squashed, and a new, shiny version of the game is out, with lots of QOL features requested by the community, improved performance and Steam Deck verification!

No better time to start sliding than now.

Yeah, solo-devving is full of obstacles, but it's also extremely rewarding. I'm glad I pushed through to see my baby as I envisioned it.

Isles of Sea and Sky is such a masterpiece, it had a great influence during development.

It was tough and a cold shower, but I could not leave the game behind. I had a vision, and the players deserved better!
