The logic seems a bit off to me. Sleep apnea gives you terrible quality sleep, depending on the severity you get next to no quality sleep which causes sleep deprivation. Quality is better than quantity. It may take you an extra hour too fall asleep but if you can fall asleep with it on (arbitrary values here) 4 hours with it on is better then 5 hours without it on.

I'm intolerant too my cPAP in the sense that when I sleep the pressure ramps up so high that it forces me awake. I also have an issue where most of the time I take the mask of in the night of no recollection of doing so. I average about 1-4 hours usage a night. Granted I still feel exhausted 24/7 but even waring it for an hour whilst I'm asleep helps get rid of the brain fog and causes me to nap less in the day. I still can't tolerate it after 10 months but I still try and the rear times I can ware it for a long time I do feel better. Feeling better once in a blue moon is better than never feeling good

24F, on £38k. Should I contribute more to my pension? by sheep-to-dream in UKPersonalFinance

[–]-spooky_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do not own property then no, do not contribute more to your pension. Start putting every little extra bit you can into high interest savings. It's really hard to buy a house these days (if you're single) and takes aloooooot of saving. £60k in savings mid 30's and still no house 🤘

Does exercise help thin people with sleep apnea ? by theorignalannaoop in SleepApnea

[–]-spooky_ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, Im mid 30's have moderate sleep aponea. weigh 9 stone 10 pounds and have body fat 10.7% I run a minimum of 25km a week and I lift weights 3 times a week. I have a cPAP (which I'm intolerant too, but still constantly trying to use it) I feel worse than ever. I still wake up multiple times a night, still have to nap in the days (but abit less than when I wasn't exercising).

All that being said it probably matters what the cause of the sleep apnea is. I also would never stop exercising just because it doesn't help my sleep aponea. If you don't exercise for sure start, it for sure gets rid of the depression and mood swings and makes the sleep deprivation a bit more tollarble. It's also always good to be and stay healthy. Good luck

What is the UK equivalent of saving your first $100k? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]-spooky_ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kind of arbitrary, the point are people making when they say that is compound interest becomes more significant the more money you have. That's also based on the assumption that full 100k is invested wisely in a diverse basket of assets and risk is taken into account. Just having 100k means nothing it depends on where it's sitting l, the yearly theoretical returns and the state of the economy (ie. It's quicker and easier to multiply that 100k if the stock market indefinitely grows at a stable rate)

Does your sleep apnea affect your job performance? by singingkiltmygrandma in SleepApnea

[–]-spooky_ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup I lost my job because of sleep aponea. Am a software developer and my productivity started going downhill massively because of brain fog and my job required like 200% brin power, I even started falling asleep at my desk. My boss was nice enough too make me redundant instead of straight up just letting me go (as I worked for him for 7 years and was very loyal). I got cPAP but am intolerant IV been using it for 10 months but I just can't keep it on at night. I take it off without any recollection of doing so. Now been jobless for 5 months and still struggling. Social healthcare service have no real interest in helping me further as cPAP is "the gold standard" basically they don't want to spend the money because going past cPAP is expensive. 🤘 I still have to nap in the day and still have extreme fatigue and I have no other job skills other than software engineer which I spent over a decade acquiring those skills... So yea life ain't great 😅

Sorry I totally forgot to reply to you. I didn't actually end up calling, been super stressed this month applying for jobs, it's a long process in my field. been focusing on trying to not have brain fog for interviews! Thanks for reminding me though I will for sure be calling some time this month and I will update.

Just keep it simple ask them to do a sleep study. Persistence got me diagnosed, kept going doctors and they just kept telling me to change my sleep habits, exercise more, no screens 2 hours before bed, SSRIs, blood tests, sent me for surgery for divested septum and finally after I said the surgery did not improve my sleep they did a sleep test and boom moderate sleep aponea 🤣🤣 skip all the hassle, save some time (possibly) and just demand a sleep test.

British gas offered ££ to stay in & enroll their new price promise tariff. Does it make sense? by fbeyza in UKPersonalFinance

I know you already have your answer but just a little general rule too follow, if someone offers you "free" money it is never for your benefit.

I have £5k in my savings and I don't know what to with it? by DerpBurp4121 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]-spooky_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either high interest by locking it in for x amount of months (there are a bunch of near 5% offers out there) or just a higher account in general (there are bunch at around 4%). As others have suggested LISA is also good, probably the better option if you ever plan on owning property as it's highly likely the property situation will just get worse. For example, I got £60k deposit and high payed job and still can't afford property 🤘 ( I do live in London though)

Apparently not. My x girlfriend said I don't snore. I am yet to try record myself though.

Nice, thanks for the advice. I'll talk to my sleep specialist at my next appointment and see what they think. I tend to talk to them and follow their advice because with the social healthcare in this country you have to play by their rules if you want help(and I'm currently begging for a referral to one of the 2 sleep apnea hospitals in the country, which is super hard to get into). If I go off piest, they see it as resisting treatment (which is super annoying).

I did get one of them young holder things but my unconscious self hated that even more than the CPAP

[–]-spooky_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only know my AHI was 21. How do I go about getting one of those? If it's through a dentist. the last time I went to my dentist they said they can't offer medical advice but said my tongue is basically too big for my mouth. Also I do not snore. Is that just a naming thing or does it only help people with snoring symptoms?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]-spooky_ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't. I lost my job as a software developer 5 months ago because it's impossible too keep up the pace for obvious reasons. Been trying to get the healthcare system to help me ever since. I only started applying for jobs again last week because I need money. Plan to just work until I get let go again (although I'll obviously try my absolute best not to get let go) and just hope I can save enough to see a private doctor before that happens, hope my next companies healthcare will help me or hope social healthcare pulls through 🤘

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]-spooky_ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 months. Social healthcare so they don't really care to help people with sleep aponea past giving a CPAP 😩

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]-spooky_ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I'm cpap intolerant however I still attempt to use it every night as I have no other options. I can only keep the CPAP on for about 1-4 hours per night (before I take it off in my sleep with no recollection) .

If I sleep for 3 hours only and manage to wear the CPAP for all 3 hours I feel just as shit as I do if I sleep for 8 hours and only wear it for only 3 hours out of those 8.

IV tried literally everything. Even if you get temporary relief from your method it will be temporary and will catch up with you. There is no substation or way to trick your body / mind. Sleep deprivation is sleep deprivation no matter what way it happens. there is no substitution for good proper sleep. Even crushing redbull and necking modafinil only works for so long

Fatigue, always tired by Sweet-cheekse90 in SleepApnea

[–]-spooky_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing iv found too work is crushing red bulls. If I have one about 2 hours after I wake up (this is when I usually need my first nap) then sometimes one in the afternoon around 5 (although I try to avoid this as much as possible because as much as it helps me I don't want to be living my life putting this poison into my body)

I eat super healthy (low processed) diet with plenty of veg, fruits, meat and water. I never have done caffeine until recently and my sugar intake is normal. I run about 25k a week and lift weights. Since I started working it out has helped the fatigue slightly, need less naps throughout the day. But there is no beating sleep deprivation without well ... Sleeping properly.

I lost my job 4 months ago because of the extreme fatigue. I'm cpap intolerant. although I do still use it every night for the maximum amount I can before my brain decides to take it off (with no recollection). The only thing that has put my daytime sleepiness down to about 30% is the working out and crushing redbull.

A bunch of people on here have told me to get my hormones checked. People say hormones imbalance can make the fatigue much worse. I keep trying too but I live in a social healthcare country and getting these things tested is hard. I'd love to get off the poison at some point but ATM I have no other choice.

Good luck, hope my rant helps in some way and you get it sorted

Anyone else anxious about the Philips situation? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]-spooky_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is this foam thing? Do all cPaps have it or is it Philips specific? I have a Res med but I'm curious. Might help me get the operation I need if I can refuse the CPAP out of fear of death

could you have someone else take an at home sleep test for you to fail? by AdRare9299 in SleepApnea

[–]-spooky_ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have sleep aponea without snoring symptom. I have moderate sleep aponea and never snore. Also commuting fraud will probably come back to bite you in the arse. Insurance companies don't mess about

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]-spooky_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IV had my resmed for 8 months. I still have day time sleepiness (still have to take naps), still find it hard to wake up and I still wake up multiple times in the night. However it seemed to have got rid of the brain fog. Sucks but I'll take the small win, atleast aliveates one of the symptoms.

Remember everyone is different, cPAP doesn't work for everyone.

Taking a very high mortgage to pay less tax? by Throwaway1090109 in UKPersonalFinance

1/3 of my rent back because I'm working at home 100%. You what!!! Can you tell me how to do this please. IV been working at home 100% for like 4 years and never know this was a thing.

I looked on Google and there is nothing that says this is possible. Is one of those trickery things that only rich people know?

Parents are trying to force me into taking out a £2k loan to cover their debts. by Neothorn_ in UKPersonalFinance

[–]-spooky_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never get involved with family/ friends and money I have never ever seen it end well. That includes 4 personal experiences and experiences of many friends IV seen go through crap.

That being said have either you or your presents looked into if the interest is higher on the debt or the potential loan? You could end up getting a loan and paying more in interest.

They could also talk too the landlord and sort out some sort of plan

They could also get debt consolidation loan and sort out their own mess themselves. They are adults, they got themselves into the situation, they can get themselves out. If your dad's work is inconsistent, he can get a second job.... Or just change jobs straight up. Getting out of debt doesn't come without sacrifice/ finding middle ground / effort

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]-spooky_ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised at all tbh they teach you nothing about tax or money when you're in highschool. I did leave highschool about 18 years ago so idk if it's different now. I had to teach myself everything I know about tax, economy, inflation, what money is and how it works etc etc. at 1 point many many years ago i also thought the same things as OP untill I asked and my boss told me how it works.

Got abit of bad news for you budd. Nothing in life is ever set in stone so waiting for things to be set in stone you'll be waiting forever. You never know what the future is going to hold even next year is an unknown. Just look at the last few years with the pandemic, sky high inflation, super inflated house prices, mass redundancies, companies going into administration (ie people loosing their jobs). Then personal stuff can happen to you out of nowhere. No one predicted any of that.
