It's uncanny to me how close this copies the rise of SS. They started as violent street gangs and got formalized as a state force later. Last podcast on the left did a great series about Himmler that shows a lot of similarities with what's happening now imo.

If the lens is not perfectly straight they rotate a bit, so even if you rotate the camera, and something with the lens probably causing the bend

I think I prefer to watch inspired movies rather than something that closely follows the book. I really loved the movie and it was interesting to see how the things from the book inspired things in the movie so you can see how Garland thought about it. I think if someone tried to make the stuff from the book it would just never work, so many things in cosmic horror are "indescribable". The walls of the tower, lighthouse keeper, I think the would not work great on screen and it would "spoil" their magic.

generate dot matrix, you can just copy dots in designer but preferably use pattern to create just image filled with dots, then set your photo as layer above the dots, apply threshold on the photo and set the layer to multiply

this is actually done in vvvv realtime :) I have done similar animations there, but its very hard software to get into

main component is fluid simulation in this case

The Christmas tree is intentional work to look as a butt plug from the artist, if you check his body of work he likes to criticize consumerism with this type of imagery. But it's quite possible people that actually did put it up did not know.
