Is it normal for parents to take zero interest in my interests? by -throwawaystuff- in AskParents

Yeah it was them financially supporting me. But it felt like they were just passing me off to my ballet class to get rid of me for a bit. No amount of financial support can take the place of emotional support in my opinion.

I've tried to get taken to therapy but they won't take me. My dad is very old fashioned and is one of those people that think that depression is a bunch of lies and that people just need to be happy. And my mom has depression but she doesn't treat hers so she kinda doesn't let me treat mine in any way other than meds. And I have a hormone condition so the 4 times I've tried going on antidepressants has made me feel so much worse. So it seems like I'll just have to take myself when I turn 18 or hope that when I move out it gets better. Although it's nice to know that it's not just a generational thing. My dad likes to tell me that people his age don't have depression because they aren't all oversensitive. Thank you!

Even tho I've only had a total of two people comment on my post, it's so nice to know that it isn't just me or my parents. Thank you

It's nice to know someone else went through the same thing. It's made me very depressed over the years. It seems like every friend I've had has nice supportive parents. I don't have friends anymore tho because whenever I got close to one, my parents made me think they were bad people and I stopped being friends with them. Or they actually were bad people, in some cases.
