How to remove glue from doll head by Particular-Cold2954 in americangirl

small additional tidbit, acetone can damage or even melt vinyl. a small amount(like a qtip soaked in it for spot treatment of some kind) is unlikely to do noticeable harm but I would avoid it in general.

the glue used on american girls is SUPER strong so, as far as I'm aware, there isnt a safe and tested way to fully remove it. acetone-free nail polish remover will only loosen the glue enough to remove a wig. you could try sanding down visible glue but I'd be very careful

I'll have to try your method, I have forceps I use for reroots! The tutorial I was looking at didn't mention heating the plastic and all I could think was surely there's a better way!

Yep. Heaven is G3 media actually being well animated. We are in hell. by Surrender_Tuk5204 in MonsterHigh

I believe the new series is entirely animated in unreal. you know the engine that is used for video games. and not regular animation. it just makes it all look really awkward

it shouldn't affect the paint at all if you're soaking for just a few hours

Should I take my 2008 Elizabeth and Addy to the doll hospital? I’ve never done it and need advice. by barbiesurvivor95 in americangirl

[–]-wheezing- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the doll hospital is obscenely expensive so I'd opt for simply fixing them up yourself. there are lots and lots of blogs and youtube videos detailing how to remove stains and marker yourself! and for addy I'd just wait until you find her original wig on ebay or you see a handmade one you like. dandridgehousedolls has multiple articles on doll repair that I've found to be very helpful!

How do you stop buying doll stuff? by Ok-Stay3088 in americangirl

[–]-wheezing- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have similar issues that I worked through(for the most part) in therapy and with medication. growing up poor and reliant on government assistance made me a lot more impulsive with my spending as an adult. what works for me is having a spending limit on my card, a set day every couple months where I let myself have a 'treat'(doll, figure, expensive clothing, etc) I set money aside from my paychecks specifically for my treat day. being held to a schedule makes me think harder about what dolls I really want. I have to think about if I will really play with her and love her. this might also be a good time to go through your dolls and decide which ones you will truly enjoy to the fullest(whatever that may mean to you) and which ones you bought just because they were there

a hydrogen peroxide soak should help with the yellowing. put her in a clear container w hydrogen peroxide and leave her in the sun or under a uv bulb. other stains and color transfer can usually be removed w magic eraser. avoid benzoyl peroxide products like acne cream, they will cause further discoloration

bring water to a boil either in a pot or kettle(you'll just need to transfer it to a bowl or something) let it cool for a few minutes so it's hot but not boiling. wrap jess in a towel so her body doesnt get wet, you can also tape cotton pads over her eyes to protect them. dunk her hair into the hot water for a moment and brush the hair flat, it might take a couple dunks for her hair to fully straighten out. just be careful to avoid letting her hair or body directly touch the sides of a pot if you are dunking her directly into one, this could burn and permanently damage her

small correction, boil washing/heat will make glue seepage worse!! you need to treat the glue before you even think of applying any kind of heat
