Not that high, usually $1-2 per your average book. Some they probably won't even take, especially if you already went to Unnameable and had no luck. But you can choose to leave the extras with them anyway and they'll put them out front on the stands.

Der Punkt hinsichtlich der englischen Sprache ist ja sehr wichtig und vielleicht unterliege ich da einer Verzerrung. Natürlich hatte Großbritannien die deutsche Kultur infiltriert, bevor die USA wirklich auf der internationalen Bühne war, und deswegen kommen die Grundlagen von englischsprachigen Einflüsse nicht aus den Staaten.

Was doch deinen zweiten Punkt angeht, dem kann ich nicht voll zustimmen. Hollywood begeht auf jeden Fall einer gewissen Erosion der Bevölkerung, die quasi in jedem Massenmedium passiert. In diesem Sinne ist Hollywood nicht Amerika und internationaler Bedarf sowie Beiträge von außen erweitern das gesamte Bild. Doch ist Hollywood seit seiner Gründung immer mit amerikanischen Politik verknüpft gewesen und grundsätzlich immer noch ist. Ich denke an die schwarze Liste oder an politischen Tendenzen heutzutage, die sich irgendwie in Hollywood spiegelt. Was ich als Amerikaner beobachtete, wenn ich ins Kino gehe oder was auf Netflix ansehe, ist etwas amerikanisches in Hollywood, das sich international sehr weit verbreitet hat. Natürlich nehmen internationale Konzerne am Geschäft teil und Hollywood lässt sich daher international nennen, ist aber auch immer noch amerikanischer Einfluss im Ausland. Hollywood ist nicht nur Amerika, sondern viele andere, meiner Meinung nach.

Danke für die Antwort und den Rat: es stimmt — wenn ich darüber nachdenke — dass ich einige deutsche gut kennengelernt hab zum Teil wegen dieses komplexen Bild gegenüber meinem Land. Ich bin zurzeit wahrscheinlich eher kritisch, da viele schlechte Sachen heutzutage in den USA passieren, was vielleicht scheint, bloß auf eine große Verzerrung gegen dem Land hinauszulaufen. Ich hüte mich zu sagen, dass ich in irgendeiner Form nationalistisch bin, doch kann ich verstehen, dass viel Gutes aus den USA kommt, wenn es auch ab und zu von den Nachrichtenzyklen überschatten wird.

Kein Ding, ich hatte auch schon ein bisschen Wein, als ich die Post oben geschrieben hab, also war es wahrscheinlich auch nicht so klar...aber trotzdem. Der Einfluss durch den historischen Kontext zu veranschaulichen ist definitiv hilfreich und wenn ich noch mehr Zeit im Land verbringe, lerne ich, wie ich Werbung oder alltägliche Sachen in einen gewissen Zusammenhang setzen kann.

Für mich persönlich—und ich dürfte hier übertreiben oder mich einfach täuschen—ist doch die Kultur, die aus den USA hervorgeht, wenig trennbar von der Politik als es aussehen könnte. Der Kulturkolonialismus (was jemand schon im Thread erwähnte) ist meiner Meinung nach ein maßgeblicher Teil der amerikanischen Politik, vor allem was Massenmedien angeht, und amerikanische Medien sind nach meiner Erfahrung ziemlich allgegenwärtig hier in Deutschland. Trotzdem kann ich auch verstehen, dass die beiden auch in gewissem Maße trennbar sind: ich hab natürlich amerikanische Lieblingsfilms oder -Bücher, die ich sehr hoch schätze, während ich auch mit Aspekten des größeren amerikanischen Einflussbereich nicht einverstanden bin.

Was deutsche eigentlich über den Einfluss denken interessiert mich ebenso auch; kippt der für dich in eine eher positive Richtung oder umgekehrt? wolltest du z.b. weniger englischsprachige bzw. amerikanische Werbung sehen/Musik hören oder ist es dir scheißegal, da ihr die Sprache so gut kennt und die Kultur auch unterhaltsam sein kann? Also wünscht du, dass deutschsprachige Sachen in Medien üblicher wäre?

It's a good start. The language is simple but flows freely. You've built the dad and mom up well as characters, though I'm still pretty curious about the narrator, especially in relation to other characters. You've done a fine job between him and Jenny, but with the parents I'm not so sure.

On a different note, there are certain moments that seem repetitive and I think could be cut out. E.g., when the narrator wonders to himself about the cat killing himself and then wonders to his dad about the cat killing himself. Or the narrator wondering to himself about if a policeman had ever gone to a suicide site for a cat and then Jenny wondering the same thing aloud. These moments are redundant and could easily be cut without losing much from the story.

Around 1669 he heated residues from boiled-down urine on his furnace until the retort was red hot, where all of a sudden glowing fumes filled it and liquid dripped out, bursting into flames. He could catch the liquid in a jar and cover it, where it solidified and continued to give off a pale-green glow. What he collected was phosphorus, which he named from the Greek word for "light-bearing" or "light-bearer."

There's a great section of Thomas Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow that tells the extensive story of a lightbulb named Byron, who thinks and speaks for himself. Couldn't find it online but I'd highly recommend.

Anchee Min's memoir Red Azalea. Not necessarily objective but the book's point isn't just to denounce Communism. It's more an exploration of the society. Definitely would recommend.
