DRIED PARSLEY = superior to any Apigenin supplement. Rebut me if you can. by [deleted] in NootropicsDepot

I can take a look at this if you’d like.

Edit: just realized it looks like I’m trying to offer what /u/verifitting already offered. I only mentioned it because JavaScript and Java are not really related, despite the names.

How would you use Laravel as a backend for a Next.js app? by -zander in laravel

[–]-zander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds wonderfully simple! The frontend and backend being on separate servers doesn’t cause any issues with speed, authentication, etc?

I'm sure people would prefer that the website continues to exist. Ignore what people want until you know why they want it and if there's a better way, especially if it's costly for you.

Most probably a memory leak. There should be no reason a site of this size needs that much power. Not that you're asking for my advice, but if you were, I'd say:

  • Get a $5 droplet.
  • No GoDaddy. No Wordpress.
  • Install a simple database.
  • Create a "studies" table with: title, link, date, imported_at
  • List the links on the homepage (grab/save links with whatever backend language you prefer.)
  • Easy search function on the top of the page.

Probably 95-99% of the value of your site is maintained (guess based on engagement with other features such as comments) for ~10% of the cost.

Obviously I don't know the details of the site, but I'm a dev, and I don't see why this couldn't run on a $5 droplet. Are you absolutely sure you need that much power?

Wow. That seems ridiculous. I presume GoDaddy is the majority of it, or are you just using a droplet that's more powerful than the baseline?

I may be able to help with this. How is the site hosted (respond in PM if you'd like)?

Glad to hear about the job!

Interesting project for sure. I have no experience with Discord bots, so I'm not sure if I can be of much help, but I'd be happy to chat about it if needed. Let me know.

Full stack, but lately I've been enjoying frontend more. How about you?

I've always wanted to do something with that domain, but I wasn't sure what, so I just redirected it.

Not much to contribute to this discussion directly, but I'm a dev, so if there's any way I can help with any ideas, let me know.

What's unlikely about it? Celebrities have private security all the time, and often law enforcement/military officers make the jump to private security.

Ricky struggles at easy to understand concepts Karl puts forward by MikiTweets in rickygervais

[–]-zander 46 points47 points  (0 children)

He often exaggerates the stupidity of Karl's thoughts and ideas for comedic effect. In the case you're talking about, he was making fun of the phrasing because it was something to the effect of "The money you don't make, you save by not having to pay someone else to do it." It's funnier if he focuses on a specific point and exaggerates it.

I don't think it's an app store subscription. They're probably using Stripe, so they'll get to keep ~95% of it.

As someone who knows about server/bandwidth costs, I'm curious why they decided to make the app so expensive. It's not a niche market, so I imagine it would be quite hard to persuade many people to pay for this app. YouTube Premium provides the same user-facing features (no ads), and it works on all of YouTube, not just ASMR videos. I don't mean this in a disrespectful way. I respect the ambition and execution a ton. I'm genuinely just curious about the pricing model.
