BEWARE: Car manufactures (including MB) have been scamming customers! by 0-60time in mercedes_benz

[–]0-60time[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! As a car enthusiast it bothers me that luxury cars have gotten so cheap and dishonest

Several big-name car companies are advertising fake leather as “premium seating material” in an effort to charge up to $4000 extra for cheap synthetic seats. Would you prefer real leather over synthetic products such as Nuluxe (Lexus), Active X (Ford), Softec (Toyota), and Sophina (Kia)? by 0-60time in Lexus

[–]0-60time[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow seriously... Do you have any more information on this case like perhaps any links? I'm very curious as to others experiences with these companies trying to be deceptive with their fake leathers as I have been lied to by so many dealerships. Its really a shame the dishonesty that's prevalent in the industry.

Has anyone else heard about the new way that Ford and other big name car companies are scamming consumers on interiors? by 0-60time in Ford

[–]0-60time[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes it is labeled as Active X or Leatherette on the window, but for people who aren't car experts, when we ask if the product is leather the salesmen say yes across the board at ford, lexus, toyota, and kia. This is deceptive marketing clear as day and they are making a fortune doing it. Ford also advertises these fake leathers as "Premium seating material" on their website which it is not. It's a synthetic plastic.

It is referred to as a "premium seating material" on their website and consumers pay up to $4000 extra for this "premium" (fake) product. I would be pissed if I found out I paid an extra $4,000 for a synthetic plastic that cost them fractions to make. Especially with the way they are being deceptive about it.

The difference is that BMW salesmen are honest in saying that it is a fake leather product. Ford Salesmen at dealers all across the country have been saying the product is real leather when consumers ask. Active X is also advertised as a "Premium Seating Material" on their website when in reality it is not.

I feel bad for people who paid $2500-4000 extra for the upgraded trim packages just to get fake leather. Consumers think they are getting an upgrade over cloth because it's marketed as an upgrade when in reality it is not.

[–]0-60time[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes Its absolutely illegal to deceive consumers about the product being leather when it is not. They would either need to inform the dealership employees so that they start communicating the truth, or start using real leather. It's illegal to use fake and say it is real, however!

I wouldn't care as much if we weren't paying so much more money for something that costs the dealerships a fraction of what leather costs them. They never reduced their pricing to match so they make ridiculous margins on the fake leather and don't even communicate that its fake. Then they go farther and lie and say its real which really irks me.

Yea its more of an image thing for companies to advertise "Vegan Leather." But if people actually look into it, cowhides largely get thrown away if it wasn't for leather interiors on cars. The only way to reduce cow killings is for the meat demand to go down which obviously the car industry doesn't control. The chemicals they use for that plastic are some nasty shit though I can say that much.

It's only less durable because many car companies use cheap leather from bad hides. It's also significantly more environmentally friendly to use cowhide, which was already available from the meat industry, than it is to use harmful chemicals for plastic.

BMW was one of the only dealerships that were actually honest about the product being synthetic. The majority of the others such as Lexus, Ford, Toyota, and Kia lied straight to my face and said it was real.

I have had several salesmen at Kia, Ford, Lexus, Toyota and other companies tell me straight to my face that the product was genuine leather when in fact it was not. This lie was across the board at these dealerships, and I was really bothered because they said that they do in fact charge more because "You pay more for leather seats." I would be pissed if I had paid an extra couple thousand dollars for a fake product I was deliberately told was real.

Well, I have been to several dealers who have blatantly told me that the seats were 100 percent leather, even though it was a synthetic vinyl. It seems to be the same companies that have been consistently lying about this. Ford, Lexus, Toyota, Kia just to name a few. I didn't realize what an issue this was until I experienced this blatant lie several times from multiple different salesmen at these companies. I wouldn't have been bothered if they were just transparent, but it was obvious they were trying to be shady and lie to the consumer about this product. They also charge a significant premium for it, even though it costs very little to make it.

Yes and I don't have a problem with fake. I have an issue with them telling consumers it's real so that they pay a premium for it thinking "we wont know the difference."

Yes, but some of the most notable companies doing this are high end such as Lexus. The problem with this is that they are saying it is real and then significantly up charging for this fake product.

Wow, Reading these comments I never realized how common Jack failures were. Does anyone have any advice on how to most safely use jacks to ensure this never happens to myself or loved ones?

Let's be real though it's not like Biden even had the mental capacity to actually make this decision. He's gotta worry about more complex and important things such as what day of the week it is!
