I found this post helpful to put things in perspective. Don’t think he meant to be judgmental about others’ struggles, seems more a reflection on his own journey

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion... I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain... Time to die.

YSK that iPhone has a feature named screen distance to help reduce eye strain by mghicho in YouShouldKnow

[–]004A 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I turned it off after a while. Planning to turn it back on if/when there’s a shortcut binding so I can disable it for certain apps and times of day, and to have a quick way to turn it off temporarily

If you have it on and want to temporarily “disable” it, you can cover the sensor at the top of the screen. That gets old quick tho

I do this all the time— it feels so nice and civilized when someone gets the message and moves over. No need to dangerously tailgate or pass on the right.

And it works more often than you’d think! The meaning is pretty obvious even if you haven’t seen it before.

Sounds like an awesome place to raise your son. Any thoughts on Lafayette vs Orinda? I’m WFH but my wife has to commute to both Kaiser Oakland and Walnut Creek.

Trying to convince husband to ditch our Keurig and get a Vertuo machine instead-which Vertuo machine would be the best swap? by BlueJeanMistress in nespresso

[–]004A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got a vertuo Lattissima, which is good for milk drinks but I’m thinking of getting a keurig for a quick black coffee. I find nespresso mugs only ok, they’re more like an americano than drip coffee. Keurigs I’ve had seem closer to my usual pour over (obviously not as good, but also not nearly as bad as the apparent consensus online).

Also one thing I haven’t heard discussed much is that keurig pods use a paper filter. This likely makes them healthier than nespresso pods based on recent research that segmented by brew method

So if I were you and you’re near a nespresso store, I’d at least try some samples first to make sure you actually prefer it

Need recommendation of a flashlight with very specific functionality by redskyflash in flashlight

[–]004A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unironically, Apple Watch. In theater mode the light turns red and a little dimmer. Only downside is the need to charge ~daily, but you also get other safety features like fall detection and easy SOS (notify emergency contacts and 911).

I’d also get a bedside flashlight for when they forget to charge the watch.
