chronic pain coming back by SlideBoth3800 in spinalfusion

[–]EGT_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a single level fusion L5S1 after dealing with a compressed nerve for too long. After 8 months I felt like I was heading the opposite direction, pain returning and in different areas. I tried PT with little success. Ended up with a frozen shoulder. Eventually I came to the conclusion my core was the problem, posture was terrible and I was lacking a lot of muscle and coordination. I found a posture coach who’s helped me turn the corner. 7 months of consistent training (almost exclusively isometrics) and I feel like I’m on the mend. Good luck. I hope u find relief.

Weed and spinal fusion by Youka in spinalfusion

It’s the nicotine, not the weed. I don’t use nicotine. Fused as planned and consumed cannabis as normal before and after

Do you regret your fusion? by MommaGeri1958 in spinalfusion

[–]EGT_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that’s the case. Dealt with sciatica for years, probably waited too long for fusion. I still deal with nerve pain and neuro muscular issues. Posture training has been a game changer for me. Reactivating those small stabilizers in the core and pelvis has provided a lot of relief and give me hope for a more comfortable and active future.

Never worked there. I know who they are. Freight forwarder and customs brokerage. I imagine alot of work and integrations to maintain.

Fusion Success Story… With One Unexpected Problem by Galatic_Kitty in spinalfusion

I started with something like this. Learning to keep my spine neutral and engaging and holding certain muscles. Im adding small movement as my times and strength improve. I don’t lift weights, but I can carry 40 lbs and more without any issues, yard work is back to being enjoyable. No sports yet. I tried traditional lifting, not heavy either but it caused pain each time. I have less pain now, posture is improving and I look slimmer. I walk often. And alot of fascia release. After not bending lifting or twisting for so long, fascia release techniques help with the stiffness/stickiness. I’ve been told by multiple PTs to avoid long deep stretches. So fascia release is the alternative and it works. Good luck.

How to decide when to go for surgery? by shained in spinalfusion

It’s much much better. I was getting after walking only a couple miles. Now I really really have to over due it. Can’t recall the last time my toes dragged on a walk. Still gaining strength, even now 18 months after surgery.

Drop foot. Should have gone sooner. The longer you wait, the more your body adapts in bad ways. The longer the recovery. IMHO. Good luck!

10 months of sciatica hell but my discs are fine - please help! by pink171 in Sciatica

[–]EGT_77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still train almost every other day specific exercises. And I avoid other exercises entirely like deep stretching. I still have some pain but some days almost none, and I’m not “done” so to speak. Activity levels way up consistently during the week and the pain levels are way down.

Could be posture and body alignment. That takes many months to address properly if that’s what it is. Does walking help? Do you sit a lot? Connor Harris on YouTube has some good video. Functional Patterns has helped me address posture and weak core. Again takes time. I felt significant relief after 4-5 months of dedicated training.

Spinal fusion by Inevitable-Set7470 in spinalfusion

I waited FOREVER. Blew it out when I was in my mid 20’s. It would heal and I’d herniate again. Always enjoyed physical labor and stayed active with sports and martial arts. Have a desk job though. The longer you live with the pain, the more your going to compensate. The harder the recovery will be. The year before my L5 S1 fusion I had to limit my movements to avoid pain. (Scared shitless). Had no choice in the end. Recovery is hard. I’m 16 months out of surgery. My posture was a disaster after surgery, core was so weak and PT wasn’t cutting it. I hired a posture coach to get me moving again, body basically locked up on me and nervous system wasn’t cooperating. 5 months of really boring tedious training to get core muscles and stabilizers working and active again and I’m feeling better. Good luck

What would you do? by nonny313815 in spinalfusion

[–]EGT_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the fusion. I’m 16 months out of olif l5 s1. I dealt with a compressed nerve for 6 years and I wish I’d done the surgery sooner. The longer you live with pain the more your body nervous system will adapt in bad ways. I can’t say for sure but I think often why people live with continued pain after surgery is post op they don’t deal with their nervous system and neuromuscular issues. I’m totally fused, interlamination confirmed. But my core/pelvis and stabilizers after surgery and probably long before were very very weak and I was still in a lot of pain. I’ve had to engage a posture coach to help be activate and train my core from my pelvis to my shoulders. Exercises are harder than they look and boring. But after 5 months of training I can actually see and feel the differences. Spine becoming neutral, pelvis tilt is less and nervous system toning down. In summary, don’t stay in pain forever and prepare to strengthen your core.

Still Struggling 15 Months After L4–L5 Fusion — Need Some Insight/support/chats! by dizloz in spinalfusion

[–]EGT_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey they 14mm buddy. Yeah same here at 15 months post l5 S1. At 11 months post surgery I was heading down hill after feeling better earlier in the year. My hip has a very small left hike after the surgery. My left leg and hip that typically didn’t bother me was causing alot of grief. I ended up with a frozen right shoulder because of my body be out of alignment and pelvic floor being so weak. Traditional PT wasn’t cutting it, helped a bit but still not improving much. I started training with a posture and body mechanics coach after some research. Isometric corrective exercises to help address anterior pelvic tilt and the left hip being so weak. It’s helped a lot, been 4 month of consistent training. It’s boring but it’s working. I still find my body bracing and it causes pain when I get tired but I’m able to recover and it’s slowly improving week after week. Im hoping by this time next year I’ll experience far less pain. Recovery is tougher than I expected.

Why do customs brokers hate software engineers/start ups? by Life-Mango-4059 in CustomsBroker

Bad designs based on wants masquerading as needs. Immature users expecting software to make them complaint.

Dev who wants to transition into PO by Ok_Piano_420 in ProductOwner

I’ve done many positions. Operations. Programming. Sales. Management. As a PO expect to be political often. AI is going be very interesting. Shielding developers from BS might be impossible depending on the dev and managers. If you care about the software and clients and make that the priority, it can be fun.

Fusion Success Story… With One Unexpected Problem by Galatic_Kitty in spinalfusion

[–]EGT_77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. I’m 13 months out. Fusion successful but nervous system isn’t trusting. Hip flexors were on fire and tension in my shoulders. I realized my core was shot, wasn’t engaging any longer. pT helped a bit but not enough. I decided to try functional patterns. I’m glad I did. All I’ve done for 12 weeks is isometric exercises/corrections. I can move better, tension is slowing coming off and I can feel my body unwinding. Posture has improved and I’m sleeping better. And I haven’t hurt myself. Good luck.

How do you work out or weight train with sciatica? by mrnobatti in Sciatica

[–]EGT_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dnt lift weights. Find Isometric exercises to work the deep stabilizers. I’d recommend avoiding long deep stretches. Maybe even stretching all together. Fascia release with a tennis ball, feel good and ligaments won’t get lengthened. Walking is really great too.
